ProAudio Review - July 2008 - (Page 36) The latest news and products NEW PRODUCTS LAWO mc256 Production Console Lawo has debuted its mc256 production console, the newest member of the mc2 series. Based on the existing mc2 technology, the mc256 offers the Lawo HD core with up to 512 DSP channels, 144 summing buses, and a routing capacity of up to 8,192 crosspoints. The complete functionality of the mc2 series is available, including the transfer of snapshots within the mc2 family, as well as dynamic automation and networking with other Lawo products. A new element of the mc256 lies in the control surface, which offers direct access to essential operating elements. Functions that are rarely used are handled via the touch-screen graphical user interface. According to the company, this design facilitates easy operation and a short learning curve. In addition, the new construction reduces fader width to 30mm. Each 16-fader bay offers fully featured metering on a high-resolution TFT. The Dan Patrick Show reaches in excess of 110 affiliates, streams live from sportsillustrated.com, appears on XM Sports Nation, etc. With so many ears listening, the cost of an aired profanity would be tremendous, and the rigorous requirements of Premiere require perfectly timed closures. For both these reasons, veteran studio designer James Hibbard, president of Pacific Mobile Recorders, specified an Symetrix AirTools 6100 profanity delay in his design and construction of Patrick’s East Coast studio. Demonstrating its sound quality and ease of use, the HHB FlashMic has been used to compile an urban London soundtrack for an arts project executed by members of the public. The Sonic Garden was commissioned by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Arts Service as an aural and visual oasis in the urban landscape of World’s End Place, a public square off Chelsea’s Kings Road. Armed with HHB FlashMics, the world’s first professional digital recording microphone, 25 public participants were sent forth to capture the sounds of Chelsea and Kensington. After the walk, the sounds were ‘planted’ in the Sonic Garden sound installation, which was then opened to the public. Season two of American Gladiators, a physical contest television show that originally ran through the 1990s, was revived at the beginning of 2008 by Reveille Productions and MGM Television. The competition, which returned to the air in mid-May on NBC, is filmed at the Los Angeles Sports Arena using Sennheiser equipment including new MKH 8040 Series wired microphones, SKM 5200 wireless handheld mics and the company’s A 5000 CP circularly polarized antennas. ZAXCOM Fusion High-Resolution Audio Recorder/Mixer The new Fusion high-resolution audio mixer and recorder is optimized for use in reality television, surround recording, and ENG applications. It replaces the multiple mixers and portable recorders that normally would be required to support mixing and recording of audio to camera via RF link or hardwired cable. Fusion can mix together 16 inputs to eight output busses for recording up to eight tracks. Fusion achieves low weight and superior power efficiency by eliminating the use of a hard drive, which additionally removes concerns of hard drive damage from extreme temperatures or motion. The system records to two CompactFlash cards simultaneously, ensuring 100 percent solid-state recording that provides both redundancy and flexibility. Other features include DSP-based audio tools, four balanced AES inputs, and an effects package.
