Never fear, gentle reader, that won’t change as PAR begins a new chapter. What you may have already noticed are elements of the layout and appearance redesign that debuts this issue. We hope you’ll find the new look an easier read, with faster access to core information. In reviews, we’ll spend a bit less time on “knob and button tour” content—the wonderful world of the internet making that sort of information so readily available— and more on the reviewer’s experiences with the hardware and software. Other changes at PAR are a bit more behind the scenes. Though I’ve been involved in increasing communication and coordination between PAR and its sister titles for several months, my responsibilities increase with this issue. John Gatski, who created PAR and shepherded it to its teen years with passion and dedication, is moving on to other pursuits; all of us at PAR wish John the very best. Eleven years ago, I first met John when he called Masterfonics studios looking for a review of a particular piece of gear. That began a relationship that had me contributing bench tests and reviews to PAR over the next couple of years. I moved from the studio to the editor’s chair myself with the creation of Audio Media USA, whose parent company later merged with that of PAR. I moved on again to Pro Sound News, where I remain editor. Now, another merger later, all three titles—Audio Media, Pro Audio Review and Pro Sound News—are united under NewBay Media. In the spirit of “Let’s get the old band back together,” this is indeed a reunion of sorts. Paul Mac, who I worked with when at Audio Media USA, remains in the editor’s chair at the U.K.-based Audio Media Worldwide (distributed in print in Europe and digitally worldwide). Strother Bullins, reviews and features editor for PAR (and Audio Media contributor), was the second editorial hire at Audio Media USA. Each of these titles will retain its unique and complementary core identity, while becoming individually stronger from the union of kindred spirits. We’re happy to add a few more names to the list of those contributing to the evolution of PAR. Fred Goodman and Chris Walsh, who also work on Pro Sound News, will be expanding their efforts to include aspects of PAR. Engineer, internetbased audio guru and producer of the remarkable 3D Audio series of gear comparison discs, Lynn Fuston, joins us as technical editor. And producer/engineer/composer Rich Tozzoli steps in as software editor. What you won’t see change is PAR’s dedication to delivering timely and pertinent content to the audio professional.
