ProAudio Review - February 2009 - (Page 45) Audio-Technica EP1, EP3 Headphones Audio-Technica has expanded its line of headphones to accompany its M2 and M3 personal monitor systems. The new headphones include the EP1 and EP3. The EP3 (pictured) is equipped with proprietary A-T dynamic drivers that reportedly offer full frequency response and high-fidelity sound. The EP3 has the same features as the EP1, but also includes a 9.8-inch extension cable/adapter with 3.5mm connector for use with MP3 and other portable players. It also includes a protective carrying case and soft pouch. It features a user interface for configuration and control in the company’s HiQnet Band Manager. The XTI6000 allows for plug-and-play usability with its integrated proprietary DSP with an LCD front panel, which reportedly helps to set crossovers, delay, limiters and EQ, along with the ability to save and recall up to 20 presets. Additionally, there is a switch-mode universal power supply, useful function indicators, propositional-speed fan-assisted cooling, XLR inputs, Speakon and binding-post outputs, and short-circuit protection. As the model numbers in the product group imply, the loudspeakers are respectively equipped with 10-, 12- and 15-inch woofers. At the high end within each of the horn-loaded, two-way cabinets, compression drivers outfitted with neodymium magnet structures, 3-inch voice coils and 1.4-inch exits can be found. Other features include user-adjustable pattern control of the high-frequency section, which reportedly facilitates changes in the vertical plane from asymmetrical coverage spanning a total of 100 degrees to a fully symmetrical 150 degrees.
