hot gear at WINTER NAMM ’09: studio Universal Audio Harrison 32C EQ Partnering with Harrison Consoles, Universal Audio has re-created the Harrison 4-band 32C channel EQ plug-in derived from the Harrison 32 Series console. The Harrison 32C EQ is modeled directly from producer/engineer Bruce Swedien’s own console and includes presets made of Swedien’s favorite EQ settings. The Harrison 32C contains four overlapping parametric bands. Each of the low (40-600 Hz), low-mid (200 Hz to 3.1 kHz), hi-mid (400 Hz to 6 kHz), and high (900 Hz to 13 kHz) bands have fully sweepable frequency and gain controls. Instead of traditional Q controls, the 32C has “circuitry that automatically adjusts the effective bandwidth,” as described in original Harrison documentation, adding to the device’s signature sound. Pric e: $249 C ontac t: Universal Audio • www.uaudio.com Primacoustic FlexiBooth Acoustical Device Primacoustic has introduced FlexiBooth, a cupboard-shaped acoustical device that can "turn any room into a functional voiceover booth by simply opening the doors." FlexiBooth features a 24 x 48-inch wall print that when open, creates a large 16-cubic-foot recording area. It is equipped with three, high-density, 6-poundper-cubic-foot, fabric-covered acoustic panels that will reportedly absorb frequencies across the entire voice range to deliver a “dry” voice track. This allows the post-production engineer to add effects such as reverb, echo, and equalization to the track to create sonic landscapes such as a rainy back alley, gymnasium or mountain range. The SM27 (pictured) is a large-diaphragm, side-address, cardioid condenser microphone that has a 1-inch, ultra-thin Mylar diaphragm for transient response, low-frequency reproduction, and a low self-noise (9.5 dB SPL) for recording or during live performances. The SM27 replaces the KSM27 model. The SM137 is a cardioid probe microphone for instrument recording applications. It employs an ultra-thin diaphragm, and its 15 dB attenuator reportedly enables it to handle sound pressure levels as high as 154 dB SPL, for consistent reproduction of delicate acoustic as well as high-volume amplified instruments. The SM137 replaces the KSM109 model.
