ProAudio Review - March 2009 - (Page 9) Minnetonka Surcode for Dolby E Encoder Minnetonka Audio Software is now shipping SurCode for Dolby E Encoder as either a single encoder plug-in or as a bundle with the already available SurCode for Dolby E Decoder. SurCode for Dolby E brings the Dolby E standard to user workstations as the first complete Dolby E file-based toolkit. It provides encoding of up to eight channels of audio with a variety of user-selectable program types ranging from 5.1 and stereo to four independent stereo or eight mono channels — all including Dolby E and program metadata via a simple user interface. SurCode for Dolby E seamlessly integrates with your workstation such as Pro Tools, AudioTools AWE and VST-qualified surround hosts. A future release will include a standalone version for both Mac and PC operating systems. Price: $3,495 ($5,995 for for Dolby E Encoder and Decoder) Contact: Minnetonka Audio Software | www.minnetonkaaudio.com Earthworks FlexWand Microphone System Earthworks has launched its FlexWand microphone system. It is a combination of a 30 kHz high-definition microphone and a low-profile microphone stand and boom as a single unit. It allows the microphone head to be positioned as high as 7 feet and as low as 1.5 feet from the floor or anywhere in between; there are no visible wires or cables above floor level. The FlexWand has a large flex section near the center of the stand that couples the stand and the wand. There is also a mini-gooseneck between the end of the wand and the microphone head. The lower section of the stand is 3/4 inches in diameter, and the 24-inch wand is 5/16 inches in diameter with a 4.5inch mini-gooseneck connected at the end, which connects to the high-definition microphone head. The combination of a mid-flex section and the mini flex on the wand provide an infinite combination of placement options between 1.5 feet and 7 feet. Prices: $1,595 and $3,290 (single cardioid or hypercardioid and matched pair cardioid or hypercardioid) Contact: Earthworks | www.earthworksaudio.comtk ADK Microphones Custom Shop Cremona-251 Au, Berlin-47 Au Augmenting ADK Custom Shop’s line of FET-based, large-diaphragm condenser microphones is the Cremona-251 Au and the Berlin-47 Au, both of which are based on unique FET circuit designs. According to the manufacturer, the key to the special tonalities of these cardioid offerings are internationally designed capsules, British Oxford transformers, high-end Phillips/Norelco FETs, and, most importantly, the experienced ears of the ADK design team. Features per microphone include a two-way attenuation pad and a two-way filter. ADK reports that the Cremona-251 Au has “medium mids and extra air,” while the Berlin-47 Au offers “medium mids and a smooth top,” as compared directly with its Vienna II Au and Berlin II Au FET mic models. Stay tuned for PAR’s upcoming review of the Cremona-251 Au and Berlin-47 Au.
