Prosound News - April 2008 - (Page 56) NAB [56] productshowcase HHB’s CDR-882 CD Recorder HHB has introduced its CDR-882 DualBurn audio CD recorder. It is compatible with all types of CD-R media, both low and high-speed up to 52X, including HHB’s own new CDR80HS 2X-52X disc. With REC-REC drive configuration, the CDR-882 supports extended recording time across two or more discs, as well as simultaneous recording of two discs, high-speed duplication and disc management. Full 24-bit A/D and D/A converters with noise-shaped dither onto CD combine with a quartz-crystal-derived internal clock and audiophile-grade analog circuitry. Connectivity includes balanced XLR analog I/O, unbalanced phono analog I/O, balanced XLR AES/EBU digital I/O, coaxial and optical S/PDIF digital I/O, external word clock input, RS232 remote control and parallel control interface. An onboard sample rate converter accepts digital signals from 32-96 kHz, and the CDR-882 ships with an infrared remote control. HHB (distributed by Sennheiser) www.sennheiserusa.com Calrec’s Offline Editor Calrec has introduced its Offline Editor, which provides operators with an emulation of the Calrec console PC application on any other PC, such as a laptop. This allows remote configuration of any Calrec console, saving time onsite. The Offline Editor is useful for operators who are working to a tight schedule, such as freelance operators planning for a specific outside broadcast. The Offline Editor also enables the desk to be preconfigured while it is still in use—a practical feature for control rooms, which are subjected to constant use with fast turnaround between broadcasts. Calrec www.calrec.com Linear Acoustic’s AeroMAX TV Audio Processor The next-generation AeroMAX 5.1-XL 10-channel TV audio processor from Linear Acoustic features built-in Dolby Digital (AC-3) encoding. According to the company, the system enables broadcasters to deliver 5.1-channel surround sound. DK-Technologies’ MSD100C Loudness Meter DK-Technologies has premiered its MSD 100C loudness meter, which has been designed to tackle the issue of the perceived loudness of audio signals. It is a standalone unit that incorporates ITU Recommendations BS.1770 and BS.1771, which specify the algorithms that should be used to measure audio program loudness. It is able to display the loudness of the individual audio channels, as well as the sum of the left and right signals, and can be used in any broadcast or post-production facility as a health check during production or prior to transmission. The unit provides loudness matching of audio from a number of different sources and offers a selection of working modes, including Fast mode for real-time viewing of loudness, Integrated mode for measuring the loudness of a recorded section or the complete recording and Gated mode for viewing loudness of audio material with long pauses (e.g. golf tournaments). DK-Technologies, www.dk-technologies.com Neutrik’s 32 Amp PowerCon Connector Neutrik has introduced its enhanced 32 Amp PowerCon for the current handling and power transfer required for high-power broadcast distribution systems. It is a locking, 3conductor, AC connector system with contacts for line, neutral and pre-mating ground. Targeted for high-power distribution systems and supplies for professional audio and lighting broadcast equipment, it can replace appliance couplers wherever a solution, in combination with a locking device, is required in order to provide a safe power connection. The system consists of two connectors—a chassis receptacle and an in-line cable connector with locking mechanism. Neutrik www.neutrikusa.com The AeroMAX 5.1-XL solution is equipped with a loudness controller, up-mixer and metadata manager, as well as full-time, 2-channel downmixing to support legacy analog paths. Built-in AutoMAX processing reportedly fixes 2-channel audio that is broadcast wrongly signaled as 5.1 channels. The processor accepts 5.1 network audio, 2-channel local audio, and digital or analog auxiliary/EAS stereo audio. HD-SDI audio input and internal Dolby Digital (AC-3) encoding are available as options. Linear Acoustic, www.linearacoustic.com RF Central’s NLL-II Digital Microwave Link RF Central has unveiled its NLL-II 5.8 GHz portable digital microwave link. The updated model offers both balanced microphone and line-level inputs via switch-selectable XLR connectors on both the transmitter and receiver. Zaxcom’s Fusion Audio Recorder/Mixer Zaxcom has launched its Fusion high-resolution audio mixer and recorder. This system is targeted for use in reality television, surround recording and ENG applications. Fusion can mix together 16 inputs to eight output busses for recording up to eight tracks. According to the company, Fusion achieves low weight and power efficiency by eliminating the use of a hard drive, which additionally removes concerns of hard-drive damage from extreme temperatures or motion. The system records to two CompactFlash cards simultaneously, enabling solid-state recording that provides redundancy. With the Fusion’s DSP-based audio tools, users can adjust more than 300 mixer cross points and 200 controllable parameters. Zaxcom, www.zaxcom.com The NLL-II is targeted for use by roaming news and sports crews. As part of its new release, the redesigned NLL-II is now also equipped with phantom power for microphones. While the new NLL-II is equipped with new features, its complete transmit-andreceive system continues to distribute wireless digital video and audio at an 1,500-foot range, all in an ultra-compact form factor.
