A: I am the Western sales manager for Genelec, and the job has many different facets. I will work closely with the Genelec rep network as well as our authorized dealers. Additionally, I will be the “Genelec evangelist” in California, where I will work with the professional recording, MI, video post, mastering and broadcast market sectors to help ensure that customers are getting the most out of their systems. I am looking forward to the challenge ahead. Q: How has your background prepared you for your new role? A: I have been calling on the studio market in Southern California for over 25 years and as a result, have a very strong network of clients. I understand what the engineer/mixer/producer needs and what the studio requirements are to be successful in their jobs. Genelec has a strong 30-year history in the design and manufacturing of accurate, reliable monitors that perform consistently day after day. Q: What new marketing initiatives are we likely to see from Genelec? A: From a product standpoint, Genelec will be introducing its most compact monitor system to date, the 6010A/5040A desktop monitor system at the NAB show, which will move Genelec into new markets. Also, now that I am on board, Genelec will be in a much better position to make a significant push of more demonstrations of its DSP Series, as well as our SE Systems, to end-users in the L.A. post-production and music recording community. Q: What are your short- and long-term goals? A: My overall goal is to better understand our customers’ needs and supply the right Genelec product that helps them in their day-to-day work. My short-term goals are to become better acquainted with our authorized dealers in California and help increase their understanding of what Genelec has to offer their customers. Also, I will be getting the salesman/reps out of the office to accompany with me on sales calls. Long-term is to increase Genelec’s visibility within the pro marketplace and to increase market share. Also, via Genelec, I want to make the world a bettersounding place! Q: What is the greatest challenge that you face? A: The biggest is to dispel incorrect information in the marketplace about our speaker technology and room acoustics in general. Genelec has many tools to improve how a speaker will work in a room vis-à-vis our 8200 DSP technology or by using our WinMLS audio program to help calibrate our larger analog speakers in a customer’s environment. Having a system calibrated using these proprietary tools helps ensure a better and more accurate listening experience. business activities including sales and marketing P&L, operations, and customer service for the company’s Studer, Soundcraft and AKG brands.
