ProSound News - December 2008 - (Page 54) [54] Meyer Sound Enters The Paris Nightlife PARIS, FRANCE—Le Showcase in Paris is quite the hot spot, offering a main performance area, restaurant/bar and lounge, all covered by Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeakers and a Galileo loudspeaker management system. In the main performance venue, a concert system consisting of four MSL-4 loudspeakers was installed, augmented by six 600-HP subwoofers. Two sets of delay loudspeakers are employed along the sidewalls, including a pair of UPA1P loudspeakers and another pair of CQ-2 loudspeakers hung from the ceil- ing. The delay system also includes two floor-mounted 600-HP subwoofers for sufficient bass power. The bar area and the lounge are handled by six UPJ-1P VariO and five UPA-1P loudspeakers, along with two USW-1P subwoofers. The lounge is supported by seven UPJ-1P loudspeakers and five ceiling-mounted UMS-1P subwoofers. Using two Galileo 616 processors, the operator can manage the various audio zones and mix at one location. Meyer Sound www.meyersound.com JBL Rocks the Plaza Audio provided dual JBL VerTec live sound reinforcement systems for NBC’s Toyota Concert Series On Today, which rocked Rockefeller Plaza for the 13th consecutive year this summer. The Concert Series, which kicked off with a special performance by Grammyaward winner Alicia Keys in April, also featured performances by Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Pussycat Dolls, Katy Perry, New Kids on the Block and Ne-Yo. The performances were staged outdoors at Rockefeller Center in New York City, drawing thousands of fans in the early mornings. A pair of stages facing each other, separated approximately 200 feet apart, allowed for consecutive performances by different artists. The south stage featured a sound reinforcement system consisting of two ground-stacked line arrays, one per side, each containing seven JBL VerTec VT4887ADP-AN powered compact line-arNEW YORK, NY—PRG On Céline Dion’s Taking Chances world tour, the singer performs using the Neumann KK 105 S capsule with the Sennheiser SKM 5200 transmitter. ray loudspeakers. The north stage featured two arrays of five VT4887ADP-AN loudspeakers per side. Each array was accompanied by a VT4881ADP-AN powered, compact arrayable subwoofer. “We have used VerTec for numerous projects in the past, in a range of sizes and configurations, and we felt VerTec was a natural fit for this project as well,” said Bob Rendon of PRG Audio. “Since the staging area is tightly situated between two buildings, we chose VerTec because we needed a highly controllable line-array system that would keep unwanted reflections to a minimum. These performances are aired live across the country, so we can’t afford a mistake of any kind. The VerTec line arrays have helped us maintain the necessary consistency for this type of application.” JBL Professional www.jblpro.com Celine Takes on Sennheiser NMR Revs Ryder Cup Gala NEW YORK, NY—Celine Dion’s Taking Chances Tour will have encompassed 120 shows in over 80 cities on five continents by the time it ends next month. With her at every stop is sound, video and lighting provider, Solotech, along with Sennheiser wireless microphones and personal monitoring systems, plus Neumann microphones, too. FOH engineer François “Frankie” Desjardins says, “She has the last word on the choice of capsule. On this tour, she is using a Neumann KK 105 S mounted on a Sennheiser SKM 5200 handheld transmitter. The background vocal microphones are Sennheiser MD 5235 capsules mounted on SKM 5200 handhelds.” The Taking Chances Tour is carrying 10 SKM 5200 handheld transmitters with a choice of cardioid and super-cardioid capsules. There are 20 EM 3732 twin receivers; 36 EK 300 IEM G2 bodypack receivers; 24 SK 5212 bodypack transmitters; and 12 SR 350 IEM G2 twin transmitters, plus a variety of antennas, splitters and combiners. The wireless equipment is monitored and coordinated remotely via four NET 1 systems. Other microphones include Neumann KM 184 and KM 150 condensers, evolution series e 902, e 906, e 835 and e 835 S dynamics, e 914 condensers, plus four each of the MKH 40 and MKH 60 shotguns, used to pick up the audience reactions. Sennheiser USA www.sennheiserusa.com 2,400-seat Whitney Hall in Louisville’s Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts was the scene of this year’s Ryder Cup Gala, a midweek event produced by the PGA of America prior to the beginning of the legendary Ryder Cup matches. Production services were provided by the Princeton (NJ) office of NMR Staging & Events, which fielded a DiGiCo desk, Nexo Geo D PA and more. The event’s audio system featured a DiGiCo CS-D5 digital console, which handled 24 inputs of video, wireless, recording and playback, as well as outputs for both house and LOUISVILLE, KY—The broadcast functions. The house system included 18 speakers per side, keeping sightlines clear and eliminating the need for delay lines to the two balconies. Digigram EtherSound technology kept the audio path in the digital domain by sending eight channels of EtherSound from the console to Nexo Geo D line arrays and CD18 sub low cabinets via Nexo 242 digital processors. QSC PL 6.0 amplifiers powered the PA; presenters were heard via Shure UHF-R wireless mics with KSM9 capsules.
