It is meant for use as a stage monitor, but can also be used as a drum- or stage-fill enclosure, specifically aimed for performers wanting extra-high SPL without losing intelligibility. The M215 is said to exhibit low distortion due to its multilayer Kevlar cone driver. The two, long-excursion, lightweight Neodymium ND-15 drivers supply power handling with a low-frequency response. Adamson’s Advanced Cone Architecture makes the ND-15 a 15-inch driver with zero axial modes in its entire passband, increasing the linearized mid-band response. The cone design also reportedly enforces durability in wet conditions, making the M215 a solution for outdoor events. In addition, the M215 features an internal crossover. Adamson Systems Engineering www.adamsonproaudio.com Music Sciences’ Mongoose Microwave Digital Snake System Audio-Technica’s mtu201 XLR Desk Stand Transmitter Audio-Technica has expanded its SpectraPulse Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless microphone system with the mtu201 XLR desk stand transmitter. The mtu201 is optimized to work with any of Audio-Technica’s 29 Engineered Sound gooseneck microphones with 3-pin XLRM-type output, targeted for such applications as podiums, boardroom tables and other situations where a gooseneck is preferred over a boundary-type mic. The mtu201 provides phantom power to the microphone and features a programmable touch-sensitive switch (for push-to-talk, push-to-mute or toggle operation) and 9-hour rechargeable battery life. A completely new application of UWB technology, SpectraPulse bypasses the RF environment to reportedly deliver clear, intelligible, secure audio without the performance and setup issues associated with conventional wireless systems. Audio-Technica www.audio-technica.com Atlas Sound’s CD Re-entrant Horns Atlas Sound has introduced a new line of constant directivity re-entrant horns consisting of three new models in 90x40-degree, 60x40degree and 40x20-degree configurations. Said to provide uniform sound coverage over conical designs, as well as tight pattern control, the horns, when ready for shipping later this year, will bear model numbers CD64, CD94 and CD42. According to the company, the re-entrant design gives the three new models increased air column length, resulting in additional output and greater pattern control. The horns are made from a polyester resin and fiberglass laminate. An integrally molded, die-cast zinc throat section is included in each design to accommodate Atlas Sound PD Series drives, as is a heavy-duty-steel mounting bracket. Atlas Sound www.atlassound.com Music Sciences has debuted its Mongoose microwave digital snake system. According to the company, the Mongoose digital snake system carries up to 64 channels of digital audio from stage to FOH and 16 channels back to the stage. It operates in the microwave “quiet zone” above 10 GHz in an effort to ensure signal is unaffected by local television or current wireless systems—or pending FCC actions that threaten other audio applications in the UHF space. The Mongoose uses a 12-inch-diameter antenna, coupled to a transmitter and a receiver, connected by Ethernet cables to rackmounted, breakout hardware. The hardware is available in 16-channel modular units, configured by the factory. Sampling frequencies up 96 kHz are supported with bit depth of 24-bit. Future interface options will include an advanced remote-control panel for managing remote mic pres. AES-EBU, MADI and multi-pin connectors for analog breakouts will also be available in 2009.
