Then students can see how the two compare and contrast. This can be done for samples in science, social studies, and art classes. PROS: Small size, low price, great image, split screen, 128MB of internal memory (enough for 300 jpg images). SD memory card slot. 3-year warranty. CONS: Arm could wear out with very heavy use. OVERALL IMPRESSION: This is an extremely good buy. The ability to compare an object to a standard is a very strong teaching tool. An instructor could even display a standard math problem on one screen and have students solve problems on the other. Or display sample lines of poetry on one screen and compose another poem on the other. PRODUCT: NCOMPUTING X550 www.ncomputing.com Retail price: $449 devices, a PCI plug-in card, and the vSpace virtualization software. Unlike other desktop virtualization solutions, the X550 delivers rich multimedia and full-screen video. PROS: The image quality is better than on earlier NComputing cards. All of the image process is done on the NComputing card, where before much of the CPU did the image processing. This allows for lower CPU usage. CONS: The cost per seat is slightly higher than in earlier versions. Some preferences in some software may have to be adjusted so it runs with NComputing. OVERALL IMPRESSION: Any time you can reduce the TCO, you are also going to increase the ROI. The NComputing X550 lets schools reuse older equipment—and run greener operations. This PCI card and software allow educators to attach five keyboards, mice, and monitors to one computer. With a second X550 kit, a total of eleven users can all share a single PC.
