Sachtler When Sachtler, a Vitec Group brand, unveiled the SOOM at NAB 2008, it put the Swiss Army Knife of camera tripods in the hands of the industry’s video professionals. The world’s first multifunctional camera support system was developed to deliver a camera support tool that can be configured into four distinct camera platforms, designed into a compact, easy-to-carry system. Beginning as a standard tripod, the SOOM TriPod provides a 75mm bowl, ready to be fitted to a Sachtler FSB or other fluid head. The TriPod features single-stage legs providing a vertical height range from 27" to 56". The operator has a choice of removable rubber feet or hardened steel spikes, and an integrated TriSpread mid-level spreader provides the TriPod with stability, even over uneven ground. For more height, the SOOM TriPod transforms into the HiPod through an integrated telescoping center column, the SOOM Tube. It can raise the camera package to a lens height of over eight feet, allowing the operator to shoot over crowds, fences or other obstacles. The HiPod column incorporates a protective dampening feature that automatically deploys as the center column is collapsed, which prevents the camera payload from crashing down. When the camera operator wants a low shot, the TriSpread mid-level spreader, which has its own 75mm bowl, can be removed from the TriPod and used as a single-stage baby tripod with a height range of 8" to nearly 19". It features rubberized spikes for sure footing. Finally, the HiPod column can be removed from the SOOM TriPod assembly to be utilized as a MonoPod. Its telescoping mechanism allows it to provide a height range from 34" to 62", and a fold-away foot bracket allows the operator to firmly secure its base to the floor. head).
