NEWH Green Voice Grows this Spring

For 2014, NEWH is offering

a wide array of Green Voice educational
opportunities. First up: the successful
Green Voice Conversations with the Experts
program will return to the Hospitality
Design Exposition & Conference (HD
Expo), May 14-16th in Las Vegas, for the
third year in a row.
Th is year's program will feature four
speakers who will bring very distinct
perspectives on sustainable practices
and how they impact the hospitality
industry. Each expert will participate in
a live one-on-one interview at the Social
Hub on the tradeshow floor, as well as a
thought-provoking roundtable discussion
once again moderated by David Mahood of
Olive Hospitality Consulti ng. "The NEWH
Sustainable Hospitality committee has been
addressing sustainability for a very long
time and our Green Voice programs are
one of the ways we get to share this with
the expanded hospitality community,"
states Mahood.
The "Green Voices" for 2014 are:
Professor Fred Stitt, distinguished writer,
educator, and founder, San Francisco Institute of Architecture;
Todd Megrath, director of sustainable strategies, MGM Resorts
International; Susan Wolfla, executive chef, Mandalay Bay;
and Tom Herlihy, president, Worm Power, nationally known
agricultural expert, and founder of North America's largest
vermicomposting facility. The roundtable discussion: Rendering
Nature: How Organic Design impacts the Hospitality Industry
from Soil, Food, and Waste to Architecture and Development,

The "Ask For It" campaign from the Green Meeting Industry
Council is changing the meeting and convention industry
by driving adoption of the APEX/ASTM Environmentally
Sustainable Meeting Standards. Meeting planners are now
asking hotels and venues what they are doing from a design and
operations perspective to provide more sustainable meetings to
their clients.
Ask For It is...
* A call to action for hotels and venues to be certified to the
APEX/ASTM Environmentally Sustainable Meeting Standard.

will cover the critical importance of
organic farming and food, waste and
land management, and architecture and
design to hospitality. From the farm to
the factory, from a boulder to a building,
nature provides us with the blueprint to
sustainable design.
The one-on-one interviews will return to
the lively Social Hub on the tradeshow floor
and will be conducted by Helen Reed, Glenn
Hasek, Dina Belon, and Mahood. These fastpaced 30-minute interviews are interactive
and informative, and not to be missed. We
encourage all NEWH members to attend
the Green Voice program at HD Expo and
support the organization's continuing
commitment to green education.
