NEWH - Spring 2018 - 69

CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS

Cincinnati Region
The Cincinnati regional group raised enough funds in its
first two years to award its first $2,500 scholarship to
Hunter Miller, a senior in the DAAP Interior Design Program
at the University of Cincinnati. The region's Indian Summer
fall fundraising event was held in September at the new
Holiday Inn and Suites in downtown Cincinnati, with
Platinum level sponsors Cambria, Hanscom & Associates,
Koroseal, and Tarkett/Centiva. Its first Morning Mingles
was held in October at Rookwood Pottery. Twenty area
professionals attended a continental breakfast and private
tour of the local artisan tile's manufacturing facilities.
Sponsorship chair Gabrielle Enzweiler participated in this year's NEWH
Host Milano trip, where NEWH and Host Milano partnered for the first
time to offer a small group of members a unique opportunity to expand
their global business network and reach at the HOST International
Show in Milan. The show offered over 2,000 exhibitors from 47 countries
featuring three macro areas dedicated to the professional hospitality
world: Food Equipment, Furniture, and Tableware. In addition to three
days at the show, this was an opportunity to bring NEWH members from
across the country together to share successes and stories of their local
chapters.
The region will be kicking off 2018 fundraising with its first-annual
bowling event, Light the Alley. Its Morning Mingles professional
development series resumes in February with events held on a bimonthly
basis. This is an opportunity for a casual and intimate gathering of
industry professionals to have a conversation with a local creative leader
or manufacturer in the area.

Los Angeles
Founding Chapter
The Los Angeles Founding chapter invited
its TopID recipients to speak to the design
community on a hospitality design panel at the
Porcelanosa showroom, with topics ranging from
LA's hospitality renaissance, to trends in design,
small versus large firms, working with clients and
vendors, and how the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
will shape hotel design in the city. In October, the
chapter celebrated the 2017 Bestie Award Gala
the Line hotel in Koreatown. The chapter awarded
$40,000 in scholarships to seven deserving
students from ArtCenter College of Design, Cal
State Long Beach, Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly
Pomona, and Woodbury University. In addition
to scholarships, the LA industry voted for the
peer-chosen Besties awards. A big thank you
to the 2017 table and bar sponsors: Boutique
Design magazine, iWorks, Gasser, Alger-Triton,
Reid Witlin, Summer Classics, Renwil, GFI, Bover,
Norcross Furniture Company, Gabby, Moore &
Giles, Couristan, and FD Studios.
