People & Places Alive Hospice Blog Receives Parthenon Award The blog of Alive Hospice (Nashville, TN) received a Parthenon Award of Merit by the Nashville Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America in recognition of excellence in communications. The Alive Hospice Blog (www.alivehospice.org/blog) was launched in January 2009. In its ﬁ rst year, it covered a variety of topics, including how caregivers help hospice patients and their families; misconceptions about hospice; lessons hospice caregivers have learned from patients and families; hospice advocacy; coping with grief and loss; and more. It now features commentary on end-of-life matters from staff and volunteers. In addition to this award, the Alive Hospice Blog was spotlighted in NHPCO’s March 23 Webinar, “Marketing Hospice in the Digital Age.” It was also featured at a Center for Nonproﬁt Management seminar as a best-practices example of how nonproﬁts can utilize blogging. HPCG Welcomes Three New Vice Presidents Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro (Greensboro, NC) has named three new vice presidents. Margaret (Maggie) Conklin, RN, BSN, MPH, was selected as vice president of clinical services for nursing. During her 33-year career, she has held senior leadership positions with Moses Cone Health System, Chesapeake Health and, most recently, as director of nursing operations with Novant Health Inc, at Forsyth Medical Center. Maggie Conklin; Risa Hanau; Paul Russ Risa Hanau, MSW, LCSW, has been named vice president of clinical services of hospice and palliative care. Her past experience includes 16 years in various management and clinical roles with hospice organizations and, prior to this appointment, had served as community educator and counselor in HPCG’s Counseling and Education Center. Paul Russ, MFA, CFRE, has been named vice president of marketing and development. Since 2001, he has served as HPCG’s director of resource development and has helped to develop a stable funding base for the agency, maximizing its annual campaign and expanding its endowment resources. Previously, Russ had fundraising and marketing responsibilities for Triad Health Project and for Family Service of the Piedmont. Ventures Software Renamed Amplicare Ventures Software, a leading vendor of web-based customer relationship software, has been renamed Amplicare. The new Amplicare brand represents the vendor’s focus and success in helping hospice and home care organizations achieve sustainable business growth and operational excellence.
