Evercare Hospice Embraces Run to Remember and Forms 13 Teams for 5K Races in May Their Goal is to Raise $25,000 to support the National Center for Care at the End of Life Last June, Patricia Ford, an NHF trustee, heard Stuart Lazarus, founder and national director of Run to Remember, talk about the program at a board meeting. His enthusiasm for the program was infectious. The wheels started turning in Ford’s head, as she thought about involving Evercare Hospice & Palliative Care. Her bold idea? Encourage all Evercare Hospice programs around the country to do a 5K on the same day in May, 2011. All the money raised would go toward NHF’s capital campaign for the National Center for Care at the End of Life. We loved it! What a wonderful way to accomplish a lot of goals. The only part of the plan that had to change was aiming for all 13 races on the same day. There just aren’t enough 5Ks to make that happen. We have, however, found races that take place sometime during the month of May. You can find a complete list of races, along with the 13 teams’ fundraising pages, at www.runtoremember.org/evercarehospice. If you live near one of the races, you should go out and cheer! Or, lace up and join the team! Instructions are on the website. “Participating in Run to Remember with NHF is a wonderful way for Evercare Hospice & Palliative Care to have an impact on hospice care nationwide and far into the future, notes Patricia Ford. She adds, ” “It also provides our bereaved families a NHF Trustee Patricia Ford of Evercare Hospice & Palliative Care had a wonderful idea—and ran with it! unique way to honor their loves ones, by walking or running in their name. And, the physical fitness aspect of it fits beautifully with the focus on employee well-being that is a hallmark of our parent company, UnitedHealth Group. n ” Run to Remember® is the athletic fundraising program of the National Hospice Foundation.
