NIWeek Preliminary Conference Program 2008 - (Page 21) ADDITIONAL EVENTS Medical Device Workshop: From Clinic to Market (NEW) During NIWeek 2008, participate in the Medical Device Workshop, an interactive, two-day seminar for physicians, scientists, and engineers developing innovative, timely, and safe medical devices. This open forum fosters collaboration between those who understand the treatment of a condition and those who understand the implementation of a medical device solution. The workshop kicks off with a keynote from G. Terry Sharrer, Ph.D., executive director of the Medical Innovation and Transformation Institute of the Inova Health System and former curator of health sciences at the Smithsonian Institution. Following the keynote, top physicians, engineers, and venture capitalists outline the landscape of the medical device market including challenges and requirements and provide feedback on how engineers can design more effective devices. On the second day, physicians can participate in training on the world’s most advanced and accessible user technology for measuring and automating instrumentation and laboratories; and engineers and device makers can discover how to use graphical system design to develop high-quality embedded devices in half the time of traditional methods. Who Should Attend Biomedical device engineers, practicing physicians with feedback for biomedical devices, potential medical device start-ups, and venture capital investors.
