Last year, Morgan Stanley built further on its new relationship with Carlson Wagonlit Travel as its consolidated U.S. agency. It also implemented Cliqbook as its online booking tool and its corporate card remains American Express. The firm last year fully deployed an internally developed pre-trip approval system. It also further developed a meetings management initiative through which it identified meetings spending and developed policies and processes to attain more control over operations. Morgan Stanley also implemented standard meetings contracts with hotels and developed a preferred vendor database, then expanded the contracts to include airlines and event vendors. The firm realized millions in meetings-related savings in 2007. >>Lockheed Martin last year completed the implementation of its global travel program. The company last year achieved 90 percent adoption through its preferred online booking channel, Travelocity Business, which serves as the company’s consolidated travel management company. The company implemented a new Web-based meetings registration and attendee management solution and this year continues to consolidate its meetings management program with StarCite. Lockheed also works with HelmsBriscoe for corporate meetings sourcing. Lockheed is attempting to green its travel program, with plans to implement transportation alternatives. On the airline front, Lockheed is seeking to expand international point-of-sale agreements. Like many companies, Lockheed’s travel department this year is setting policy around the reimbursement of recently unbundled travel offerings by airlines and other travel providers. Ancillary revenue generators in question include rental car companies’ GPS systems, hotels’ and airlines’ Wi-Fi fees and carriers’ upselling initiatives, among others. Ever since the company became the largest to undergo a full multinational consolidation with an online travel management company, Lockheed has guided Travelocity Business through new technology developments. Among those, Lockheed Martin continues to bring previously offline domestic recruiting travel services into an online platform with Travelocity, eliminating the manual creation of profiles, reducing agency service fees and automating the approval process and the building of shell travel profiles. The company’s U.S.-based travelers use the U.S. Bank Visa card for travel purchases and the IBM system for expense reports. The company established a top meetings report, shared with leadership on a monthly basis, that covers such items as location, venue and average cost per attendee. Meetings with more than $50,000 of spending require COO approval. To further reduce operating costs, Accenture in 2008 outsourced the U.S. events team to American Express and took similar action in other locations. The firm also created green guidelines for travel alternatives, focusing on such areas as rail and remote conferencing. Last year, a U.S.-based executive frequent flyer program was introduced, allowing top travelers a choice of an airline club membership or an American Express platinum card. Also last year, the firm shifted travel cost reporting from agency and card data to SAP reporting, so that it will be better aligned with internal financial reporting. The consulting company uses American Express for U.S. booked travel. Several travel management companies, including Carlson Wagonlit Travel, support McKinsey’s international travel needs. McKinsey’s headcount was up 10 percent over the previous year to 14,100.
