The process generated significant year-over-year savings, confirmed by benchmarking that showed its domestic average ticket price was the best in its class, and its international average ticket price for the first time was lower than that of its peer group. Ernst & Young’s 2007 U.S. booked air volume annually grew by only $2 million, and the company is working to reduce its average ticket price even further this year, developing policy language that restricts booking with contracted carriers to fares within $100 of the lowest logical fare for domestic travel and $200 for international. Ernst & Young in 2008 also is pushing to increase the 60 percent U.S. adoption rate of its GetThere online booking tool, a figure that has increased from 54 percent in 2006 and 50 percent in 2005. Meanwhile, the company this year developed policy language that will deny reimbursement to travelers who book outside approved channels. The company also is exploring methods to reduce its average daily hotel rate and developing price caps on meals that will vary by city. Much of Oracle’s 2007 travel management accomplishments centered on streamlining the major, rapid changes the program underwent in 2006, when the company consolidated with CWT for all travel management company services, shifted to Sabre from Galileo as its primary global distribution system and to GetThere as the primary self-booking tool. In 2007, Oracle implemented Sabre in all four business travel centers and GetThere in 28 countries. Oracle also implemented a new policy that governs non-employee travel. This year, the company is working to further streamline the followthe-sun program and standardize operations across all business travel centers, which will house still more former CWT sites. The upshot of Oracle’s moves in 2007 was a 42 percent reduction in global travel program operating expenses, a figure the company is building upon this year. Oracle’s U.S. booked air volume dropped more than 10 percent from 2006 levels, though companywide air volume rose a bit less than 4 percent.
