Emerson continues to grow its global business, and in 2007 its revenue increased by $2 million. After several acquisitions in 2007, Emerson Electric, which manufactures electrical, electromechanical and electronic products at more than 260 locations worldwide, had more than 137,000 employees, nearly an 8 percent increase from the previous year. Where it has particular strength, Emerson uses American Express instead of Carlson Wagonlit Travel to serve U.S. travel management needs. Emerson uses the American Express corporate card globally. This year, the financial services company is tightening the screws on its North American hotel program—moving its lowest logical policy to the lodging front in its top 10 cities, mandating non-client travelers to book hotels seven days in advance, while curbing employee use of deluxe hotel rooms. The company’s travel department last year made the push to increase online booking adoption for air purchases, gaining more than 70 percent of U.S. online adoption with Sabre’s GetThere, which also is used outside of the United States. The company this year is continuing a global requests-for-proposals strategy, requesting bids from corporate housing suppliers, management information system reporting companies, commercial airlines, charter aircraft operators and hotels. Credit Suisse continues on an ambitious project launched in 2006 to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality by 2012. The program includes air mileage tracking and focuses on promoting remote conferencing to help reduce air travel. Credit Suisse last year conducted more than 2.5 million minutes of videoconferencing, a 25 percent increase from 2006. The remote conferencing facilities include standard videoconferencing rooms, desktop videoconferencing systems for select individuals and hightech conferencing rooms for senior-level executives. Though not mandated, the company is using its travel agency and conferencing reservation system to inform employees of the travel alternatives. Credit Suisse continues to consolidate meetings management with Events Forum, a third-party corporate meetings management company. Credit Suisse travelers use the American Express corporate charge card in the United States and abroad. >>Fidelity Investments in 2007 saw a more than 30 percent spike in its U.S. booked air volume, compared with $55 million in 2006. The firm in 2007 revised its air, car and hotel contracts, including lastroom availability in the latter. It also increased online booking adoption to 60 percent. Fidelity uses BCD Travel and Orbitz for Business as its U.S. travel agencies. The firm last year added Citibank as the issuer for its corporate cards outside of the United States. JPMorgan Chase remained the issuer of its domestic corporate cards. International expansion remains a focus for Fidelity, which in 2007 expanded travel delivery service internationally and plans this year to continue expanding card and travel management services. In addition, Fidelity plans to enhance the management of its reporting tools and create integrated end-to-end solutions. SCIENCE APPLICATIONS INT’L CORP. The company once used the CorpTrip self-booking tool offered by Raleigh, N.C.-based Travel Management Partners, which manages SAIC’s domestic travel bookings, but in 2006 SAIC reported only a 5 percent adoption rate.
