In 2008, Interpublic’s goals are a 75 percent online booking adoption rate, consolidation of the travel program in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and a revision of its hotel city benchmark program. It uses Sabre’s Synxis hotel distribution system. Interpublic uses both American Express and HRG as its agencies for travel outside the United States. American Express is its primary corporate card vendor worldwide. >>Investment banking firm Lehman Brothers last year saw its U.S. booked air volume fall from $54 million in 2006. The company last year furthered travel management automation initiatives by consolidating its global pre- and post-trip reporting system from six platforms to one. Lehman Brothers also increased self-booking adoption through its Cliqbook tool to 50 percent in 2007, and is working toward launching a self-booking tool in Europe this year. The company’s travel department continues to focus efforts on Asia, appointing a full-time travel manager to oversee the region and align the program toward global consistency. Travel management company American Express last year covered about 95 percent of the company’s U.S. booked air volume. Though the company last year used American Express in some regions outside of the United States, U.K.-based travel management firm Hillgate Travel served as the TMC for two-thirds of the company’s international travel. American Express also is the company’s preferred charge card for T&E expenses. Philips this year completed an agency request-for-proposals process and now is consolidated globally under American Express, which already provided corporate cards for Philips. Philips also switched from Carlson Wagonlit Travel’s online booking tool to Concur’s Cliqbook as a result of the bid process. Agency and Cliqbook integration is a goal for this year. Philips this year changed the airline class of service policy to allow travelers to upgrade to business class using reward points. Philips also completed a car rental RFP, keeping Hertz as its preferred supplier. U.S. booked air volume dropped by almost 3 percent, compared with the 2006 volume. Companywide air volume dropped even more sharply, by more than 8 percent, and companywide T&E spending dropped by 6.4 percent. This year, Philips aims to increase its preferred hotel use and strengthen its meetings program. The company has reported using remote conferencing technology as one of several strategies to reduce travel costs. The international design, engineering and construction firm’s travel department awarded its global travel management company contract to American Express, replacing BCD Travel, and is working toward a multinational rollout. The company is beginning by integrating Canada’s travel program with U.S. operations, then plans to move its consolidation efforts to Western Europe, beginning with London. To facilitate consolidation efforts, Fluor’s travel department this year is undergoing a complete travel policy review and update of traveler guidelines. In addition to providing travel management services, American Express is the company’s preferred charge card supplier for travel expenses.
