CPN - December 2008 - (Page 16) CPN’s Executive of the Year Awards Leading the Charge E ach year, CPN honors those commercial real estate executives that have exhibited leadership and ingenuity during the past year. Determined by a vote among their peers, following an industrywide nomination solicitation, these executives have proven themselves to be creative, innovative, forward thinking and strategic. This year’s Executives of the Year awards include a new category: Sustainability Executive of the Year. Reflecting the industry’s growing recognition of the need for green and other sustainable approaches to building and internal space design, the award focused on developers’ contributions to the furtherance of the commercial real estate industry’s sustainable practices. Celebrating the number and variety of achievers leading the industry forward, we also expanded our recognition of the winners to include two honorees in addition to the first-place position for each award, with the exception of the Lifetime Achievement award. Once again, the vote among the top two executives at companies across the industry produced several multiple-award winners, including the topmost: Executive of the Year. Though Jeffrey Schwartz resigned from ProLogis just days before the award ceremony, as the financial crisis and resultant stock market volatility buffeted the REIT sector, his election to three first-place awards and two honoree positions reflects the industry’s recognition of what he accomplished for ProLogis and the commercial real estate sector during his three years at the helm of the industrial REIT. The industry also overwhelmingly elected to recognize the lifetime achievements of John Cushman III, who in the past 45 years has continued his family’s tradition in the commercial real estate industry, brokering some of the country’s largest deals, successfully leading Cushman Realty Corp. and making significant contributions to Cushman & Wakefield Inc. and the industry as a whole. The award winners were honored at a luncheon in New York City on Nov. 14th, following a keynote by pollster John Zogby. The presentation that follows includes biographical information on the winners; a special online feature accessible at www.cpnonline.com offers reflections and insights from many of them.
