New-product deliveries are up but still at a controlled level, and vacancies are low. Reduced affordability of housing and the growing presence of both Echo Boomer and Empty Nester renters is expected to contribute to further strength. As the market continues to evolve, CPN and Multi-Housing News present our annual guide to investors, lenders, service providers and others actively conducting business in the multi-family sector. This year’s Multi-Family Greenbook offers a new feature: As demand from residents and corporations helps drive interest in sustainable design, we include a variety of information on multi-family players’ so-called green initiatives. In addition to a property forecast by Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services Inc.’s Linwood Thompson, we offer a discussion of multi-family’s green future by the National Association of Home Builders’ Steve Patterson. We also provide details of green efforts within the profiles of the leading sector players and specifics on the strategies of other companies throughout the listings. The book also includes plenty of other information about sector members. Profiles of the largest players include their latest important news, as well as details of their current strategies. Those profiled include owners, investors, lenders and service providers involved with luxury, market-rate, low-income and seniors housing. Shorter profiles summarize the efforts of other important players, with sections on owners, managers and developers; REITs; finance firms; seniors housing providers; service firms; and software providers. The annual guide concludes with an alphabetized directory of more than 230 companies. The list includes addresses, phone and fax numbers, Web sites, key executives and activities, as well as details on green efforts. This year, an index beginning on page 26 will help identify companies by the types of service you require. The Multi-Family Greenbook will also be available in a digital format, featuring live links and a search capability. Whether you prefer the print or digital format, we hope you find this 2008 edition of the book a valuable part of your tool kit. We welcome questions regarding this book and suggestions for future improvements. Suzann D.
