Conceived by Toronto-based retail design group II BY IV Design Associates Inc., and with the help of Kansas City, Mo.-based architecture firm Populous, the facility boasts roughly 37,000 sq. ft. of space for its new restaurant, bar and lounge amenities. With an innovative design, modern technologies for increased fan and player comfort, and better sight lines, the new lounge at Yankee Stadium illustrates the distinctive Yankee heritage in a luxurious and contemporary way. The lounge features a Legends Suite Club, Legends Suite Dugout Lounges and NYY Steak restaurant, as well as a new Yankee Stadium Banquet and Conference Center that allows corporate guests to talk business while watching the game. The Legends Suite Club, located behind home plate, is an exclusive two-story bar area, where Legends Suite ticket-holders get a full view of the baseball field. The staircase connecting the upper and lower levels of the Legends Suite Club is October 2009 bound by blue glass that has been branded with a clever New York Yankees’ logo-based graphic. Situated behind the Legends Suite seats along the first- and third-base lines, the expansive Legends Suite Dugout Lounges are private club areas that feature enlarged black-and-white images of past Yankees players as “the backdrop to what would have been a cavernous space,” says Dan Menchions, co-owner of II BY IV. “The backlit images add to the overall ambience. For a space not having any natural light or view to the field, the areas have become popular hangouts for the fans.” Just past Gate 6, NYY Steak overlooks the Stadium’s Great Hall, and provides a venue for refined dining. The restaurant features 86 approved signatures from original and current players on a lustrous, backlit, acid-etched bronze mirror that lends the main dining area a sleek, distinguished appearance. The black American oak floor adds to the restaurant’s warm feel. According to Menchions, the new Yankee Lounge manages to capture the renowned Yankee spirit in a modern and sophisticated way, making the fan experience much like “hanging out with one of the players.” www.ddimagazine.com http://www.ddimagazine.com
