With the goal of having the feeling of “a big front porch,” Winn says the sofﬁt of the front canopy is made of reclaimed wood, and the TreeHouse sign ﬂoats on COR-TEN steel. “Because it doesn’t rust all the way through, there is minimal upkeep,” he says. Solar panels lining the top of the exterior sign provide lighting for the sign and show customers a simple way to integrate them into home projects. True to its local roots, this TreeHouse features a Progress Coffee shop (an Austin-based roaster) at the front of the store. Although there are not currently plans for new TreeHouse stores, the plan is to partner with local businesses as much as possible. In an industry not often known for customer service, Graham says he appreciates how TreeHouse’s design, with its low racking and easily navigated ﬂoorplan, makes it easy to ﬁnd people to help you. “Another thing I love—and I had someone hug me the other day over this—it doesn’t smell like a new store,” he says. “With our new stores, people who may have otherwise had problems can shop, because of the materials we use.
