98 | GlobalShop Sponsored by: Vegas retail Top luxury labels take up residence on The Strip By Vilma Barr as Vegas has come of age as a sophisticated retail destination, now exhibiting multicultural city chic and an urban, design-driven crowd. Once a primarily theme-focused collection of purveyors of tourist market souvenir merchandise, notable collections of luxury and upscale stores and shops have now joined the first of such interior specialty malls, The Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace. It opened in 1992 and is now home to 160 stores. Visitors can opt to visit Fashion Show with branches of Saks, Neiman Marcus, Dillard’s and Macy’s; and the Shops at Bellagio, with branches of Chanel, Prada and Fendi. In December 2009, Crystals at CityCenter opened with 500,000 sq. ft. of retail space occupied by such world-class fashion labels as Tom Ford, Stella McCartney and Bulgari. A year later, The Cosmopolitan hotel’s shops came on the scene, appealing to shoppers drawn to such specialty names as Allsaints, Kidrobot and Vitals. Utilizing high, pressed-tin ceilings, contemporary chandeliers and stacks of boxes, displays on classic freestanding fixturing were angled to lead the shopper along the length of store with fully stocked wall cases. Marni The Crystals For its shops in international major markets, Milan-based Marni has communicated a strong fashion-forward image with its geometrically themed interiors. Designed by London-based Sybarite, the Las Vegas store has stainless steel rails with hanging garments snaking through the space. Accessories are displayed in illuminated multishaped wall cases or in recessed bubbles. An illuminated, elliptical, dropped ceiling adds a dramatic overhead dimension. Jimmy Choo The Crystals Viewed through the full glass storefront of the 1,300-sq.-ft. store, the designer’s shoes and handbags are displayed as works of art in illuminated wall cases. Colors are soft and muted hues of ivory, pale pink, lilac and sand. The luxury setting is enhanced by tufted seating, mirrored tables and an overhead lighting treatment of recessed fixtures within an illuminated frame. | February/March 2012
