I f you're a retailer, architect or contract designer (as almost all of our readers are), you most likely said, "Yes, I'm in the design business." But, are you in the business of design? That is, can you quantify your contribution to your company's EBITDA? Can you hold your own with your CFO? Your board? Your CEO? Or does the mere mention of ROI make you cringe, and the dubious stares of your finance team make you wither? Considering the relative difficulty to quantify design that hundreds of retail designers expressed to us over the last quarter-century, it's probable that the business end of design tests you mightily. And, unless your company is unfailingly design-driven-unless design is baked into your company culture-you'll continue to struggle with justifying your best ideas. So, how to walk into the C-Suite armed with the numbers, language and, most of all, confidence that you need to push innovative design? And by the way, do you find that your company usually goes "outside" to develop a new prototype? How can you convince leaders to look inwardly next time for such a venture? The answer is: I don't know. But, fear not, I know people who do know the answers. And that's where a tradeshow-okay, our tradeshow, GlobalShop-comes in. How's that, you ask?
