21 David Weeks Studio
38 Walker St., near Church Street
Expansive 14-ft. ceilings will serve designer
David Weeks well in his first standalone
store, which opened in October. In the
2,400-sq.-ft. gallery-style space, Weeks
features his award-winning architectural
lighting plus mod furniture, statement
pieces and children's toys, such as
wooden rhinos.

18 A.P.C.
49 Bond St., between Lafayette and
Bowery streets
In line with the glam-meets-edgy retail
developments near The Bowery, hip French
casualwear line A.P.C., known for couture
denim and structured leather jackets, is
expanding with a new 1,500-sq.-ft. streetlevel location on cobblestoned Bond Street.
The opening date has been pushed back,
but construction is well underway and the
storefront bears the A.P.C. logo against thin
vertical beams of lightwood.
19 Best Made Co.
36 White St., near Church Street
Best Made Co. successfully tapped into
the hipster desire for primal objects and
natural experiences and has made waves
with its bestselling product: a sleek axe.
The company's first store takes on a
"lumberjack chic" approach to the Boy
Scout-like paraphernalia, including flags,
tin cups, reliefs of the moon, posters of the
Catskills and ladders that adorn charcoal
walls and boxed wood shelving. Displayed
are brightly colored axe handles, steel
cookware, canvas bags, pocketknives,
shearling vests and other artisan camping
gear. Go for the experience.
22 DLB at ABC Carpet & Home
888 Broadway, at 19th Street
DLB, the vintage rug company formerly
known as Doris Leslie Blau, has teamed up
with ABC Carpet & Home and launched a
1,600-sq.-ft. showroom on the sixth floor
of ABC. Beneath warm hanging lights,
about 40 patterned vintage and reproduction Swedish rugs from the '30s to the '50s
find home.

23 Dover Street Market
160 Lexington Ave., at 30th Street
Rei Kawakubo's international Dover Street
Market is set to shake up the unsuspecting
Kips Bay neighborhood with a December
opening of a 20,000-sq.-ft., seven-story
mega-shop that's sure to draw a crowd of
the fashionista intelligentsia, quirky celebrities, tourists and hipsters with allowances.
It will retail Comme des Garçons and
likeminded contemporary brands, along
with vintage pieces and art.
24 Etienne Aigner
65 Greene St., between Broome and Spring streets
Following a branding facelift by new Creative Director Daniela Anastasio Bardazzi,
Etienne Aigner opened its 3,500-sq.-ft. flagship store downtown this fall. At the twostory building, tradition gets a mod upgrade
while paying tribute to the designer's origins
as a book-binder with a sunlit reading room
solarium designed for leisurely shoppers.
Textured bags and chestnut leather boots
line walls warmly illuminated by overhead
lights, while cordovan leather, brass and
reclaimed wood accent the store.

20 Bite Beauty Lip Lab
174 Prince St., between Thompson and
Sullivan streets
A pop-up beauty shop successfully found
a permanent home and cult following at its
first bricks-and-mortar shop, which opened
in mid-October. At this cozy color bar,
shoppers sit down to create custom lipstick
shades, made from food-grade ingredients
that are scented to your liking and poured
into metal bullet molds. At interactive Willy
Wonka-style play stations, beauty lovers are
hands on in BITE-branded rubber gloves.

25 Foscarini Spazio
17 Greene St.
Bringing Milan to Manhattan, the Italian
home lighting retailer debuted its first North
American outpost this summer, unveiling a space that doubles as a showroom
and store. Designed by Ferruccio Laviani,
one side of the store features changing
"site-specific installations" hanging from its
17-ft. ceilings, while the other is dedicated
to modular display shelving of varying scales
showcasing its huge lighting collection.
