36 | New York Section 26 Goods for the Study 234 Mulberry St., between Prince and Spring streets The little brother to the beloved independent McNally Jackson Bookstore, Goods for the Study is a quaint shop that sells luxurious new and vintage writing accessories, and new and vintage library furniture. The interior was a homegrown collaborative effort by Sarah McNally and Sandeep Salter, who designed elegant mahogany shelving made by Brooklyn's Patrick Bozeman. The booksellers at McNally Jackson built the entire interior, including restoring the wood beam ceiling and inlaid hardwood floor. 8 10 Lower Manhattan 23 30 28 22 Photo: David Brandon Geeting 27 Intermix 332 Bowery St., at Bond Street Following a $130-million acquisition by Gap Inc., Intermix rolled out an ambitious 4,300-sq.-ft. store on The Bowery and will expand in Brooklyn as well. Intermix Bowery's offerings of brands like Helmut Lang, Rag & Bone and Yigal Azrouel, playlists of Morrissey and The XX, and décor of wood display cases, wood veneer and exposed brick walls, iron-beam racks and gray suede ottomans speak to its darker and hipper East Village neighbors. The brand's signature modern aesthetic is on display in the fresh, white, open 10,000-sq.-ft. loft-style shop. The grand, 3,600-sq.-ft. space also offers flowers and adorable hostess gifts. 31 Maison Ladurée 398 W. Broadway, near Broome Street In mid-November, the iconic 151-year-old Parisian macaron shop will open the "biggest Ladurée in the world" in a prime downtown location. The tourist and sweet tooth attraction will feature a restaurant, three salons, a macaron shop, a full-sized bakery, a terrace and macarons flown in from France daily. In theme, French children's store Bonpoint will open next door. 32 Manuel Racim 44 Hudson St., near Chambers Street This summer, Parisian transplants Manuel Guardiola and Racim Allouani opened a high-tech, no-appointment-necessary bespoke custom shirt shop for men. Remote-controlled panels reveal hundreds of fabric choices and a wall mirror becomes a touchscreen surface, allowing customers to browse options throughout each step of the custom design process from monograms to threading. The order is then processed at a 100-year-old French atelier and shipped within two weeks. Pas de Calais is named after the region in France famous for producing lace, and like its namesake, the interior of the store reflects organic elegance in details like the ceiling's suspended white wires that look like a textile loom and a piece made from 3,000 transparent white leaves in spiraled motion. Marvels like these are paired with inspired rustic pieces, such as a sculpture crafted from vintage windows. 26 37 24 33 35 39 29 25 38 21 36 32 | November/December 2013 GRAND ST HOWARD ST 19 Photo: Nacasa & Partners Inc. 31 THOMAS ST DUANE ST 27 18 BOND ST
