With design experts and Las Vegas insiders, explore Hidden Vegas and The Naked City. For decades, Las Vegas has been the fastest-growing area in the nation, in the fastest-growing state. In the throes of such rapid change, 50-year-old buildings are now “museums,” 25-year-old buildings are torn down routinely, and new building height and parking restrictions bring increased verticality to developments everywhere. But, as we contemplate what remains, one has to wonder, “What’s left of the past and how is it used today?” Find out by getting away from The Strip and Glitter Gulch and exploring another side of Las Vegas—and what characterizes retail, hospitality, and “The Naked City.” Bruce R. Goff, ASID, of Domus Design Group, and Darrell Parker of Parker Scaggiari, take you to “off-the-map” areas in search of hidden Las Vegas. HD8SV2 - NEWH Inc. Charity Site Visit 2:15 PM - 5 PM Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino: Restaurants Spark a Transformation Tour Strip House and KOI, two premier restaurants at the redesigned Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Strip House is the perfect fit for the new Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, enhancing the chic atmosphere of the groundbreaking 50-story luxury condominium connected to the Planet Hollywood Towers. (Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino is the world’s first vacation ownership resort connected to a casino complex.) As part of its reinvention, the resort has launched Strip House, created by The Glazier Group, renowned for properties such as Monkey Bar, Michael Jordan’s The Steak House N.Y.C., Bridgewater’s, and Twenty-Four Fifth. Designed by architectural visionary David Rockwell, Strip House redefines the traditional steak house paradigm with a saucy mélange of rosy lighting and flocked wallcoverings adorned with black and white photographs from the famed Studio Manasse collection. Burlesque themes meet technology in 12 “living burlesque photographs,” LCD screens in elaborate wood frames, displaying different brief and occasional movements of the women in the “photographs.” Across 10,000 square feet, the venue seats 200 in the main dining room and 50 in the lounge. KOI Las Vegas, owned by the Los Angeles-based KOI Group, features interiors by its new in-house design team, KOI Design Group. From Los Angeles’ restaurant row to New York’s Bryant Park, KOI is no stranger to premier real estate. “We always knew that Las Vegas would make a great home for our next KOI so when we were approached with the opportunity to open in the Planet Hollywood Resort we just couldn’t pass it up. The location of the hotel and its dramatic new look were major factors in our decision, and we knew owner Robert Earl would make for a great partner,” explains Dipu Haque, co-owner of the KOI Group. One of the hotel’s most striking venues, KOI is strategically located on “The Mezz” overlooking the casino floor and is visible from every corner of the main floor. The restaurant’s Asian design elements and an ingenious floorplan combine an exotic Far Eastern aura with Hollywood style. Thursday, May 15, 2008 HD8SV4 - NEWH Inc.
