HD 2008 Expo & Conference - (Page 7) visits HD8SV3 - NEWH Inc. Charity Site Visit 1 PM - 4 PM Luxor’s Fluid Reinvention: Ultra-Chic Restaurants and Clubs Tour what’s new at Luxor Resort & Casino. The 30-story grand pyramid, a visual hallmark of the Las Vegas Strip, boasts the world’s largest atrium—at 29 million cubic feet. Now, Luxor (a wholly owned subsidiary of MGM MIRAGE™) has a geo-centric ultra-bar by Tokyo-based SuperPotato to usher in the resort’s chic, fluid, open design for the casino, as well as a half-dozen additional hit restaurants and clubs. Your site visit includes a look at the newest spaces, with commentary by the MGM team that masterminded their integration at the resort. MGM has partnered with Pure Management Group (owned by celebrities Nicky Hilton, Wilmer Valderrama, and Nick Lachey) to open LAx Nightclub, Noir Bar, and Company American Bistro, designed with a rustic-meets-chic organic environment, and offering diners contemporary twists on classic American entrees. Crafted by the award-winning, New York-based design firm AvroKO, Company American Bistro encompasses more than 10,000 square feet featuring a fireside lounge surrounded by aspen trees and hurricane-lamp candles. The main dining room is highlighted by a state-of-the-art wine wall and silver-leafed chandeliers. At Liquidity, the super-stylish bar by SuperPotato positioned at the heart of Luxor, view a wall of water comprised of 4,400 rainspouts that provide a “liquid screen” for customizable digital projection. SuperPotato also designed Aurora at Luxor, which has a street presence, and where the design inspiration, “Aurora Borealis” or northern lights, provided a moniker as well. Celebrity chef Kerry Simon serves up inspired cuisine and signature small plates at CatHouse, the brainchild of Australian club owner Billy Cross and motorcycle champ Mike Doohan. Design critics note that “chic meets slick” and “bordello meets ballroom” in this “loungerie”restaurant-club hybrid. Friday, May 16, 2008 HD8SV5 - NEWH Inc. Charity Site Visit 9 AM - 10:30 AM Blush and More: Experience Wynn Las Vegas’ Newest Venues The design team at Wynn Las Vegas has another hit on its hands: Blush, called the first boutique nightclub in Las Vegas. The lounge/club venue, located in the former Lure space just off the casino floor at Wynn Las Vegas, is the brainchild of Stephen Wynn and Sean Christie, a founder and managing partner at The Light Group. It is designed to take patrons from lounge and eatery to late-night club. Roger Thomas, executive vice president of design, Wynn Design and Development, who created the glamorous, yet contemporary, look and feel of Blush will lead your tour. “It’s the coolest living room in Las Vegas,” he says. Thomas lighted an onyx dance floor underfoot and illuminated the space overhead with 300 hue-changing lanterns. Luxurious fabrics and finishes provide counterpoint to the provocative, edgy modern art that covers the walls. With its chic outdoor space and intimate appeal, Blush has emerged as a popular alternative to the mega-clubs of Las Vegas. And Thomas has thought of everything—from personal lockers to purse drawers to VIP areas to an expanded ladies’ lounge. Your tour also includes a look at Wynn Esplanade’s latest retail ventures: Alexander McQueen, Black Satin Intimates, and the first U.S. boutique for Vertu (offering the world’s most prestigious mobile phones). HD8SV6 - NEWH Inc. Charity Site Visit 2:15 PM - 5 PM The Hotel on Mt. Charleston: Rustic Retreat ‘Facelift’ The Hotel on Mt. Charleston, Las Vegas, located 35 minutes from The Strip at the base of the mountains in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest (the largest national forest outside Alaska) encircling Las Vegas, represents the antithesis of the city’s glitz and glamour. This 65-room, full-service hotel was built in the romantic, rustic, lodge style and embodies the feeling of a casual the Nevada’s Old West. The property had been operating in the red until new management took over the property in November 2007. John Di Guiseppe of Investors Hospitality Management (IHM), a sustainable management company, tapped his brother, New York architect/interior designer Anthony Di Guiseppe, AIA, RIBA, to evaluate the property and see what could be done to provide a facelift without spending a lot of capital. Anthony proposed a hands-on redesign of the lobby and some public spaces by enhancing the lodge-like style of this unusual Vegas hotel. Anthony and his staff stayed four days at the property to provide a hands-on makeover utilizing the existing assets of the facility, as well as the hotel staff, to conduct the makeover of the lobby for a mere $20,000.00. (Yes, twenty thousand dollars!) The Hotel on Mt. Charleston and IHM invite HD 2008 attendees to view the results, which have been documented in film, and celebrate their participation in the HD 2008 charity site visit events with hosted cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and music to kick off your “HD weekend.” See for yourself what can be done with a little ingenuity and a lot of passion for design! 7 http://hdexpo.com
