wünderkind Joseph Dirand Joseph Dirand burst onto the hospitality scene this past year when innovative Mexican boutique hotel company Grupo Habita enlisted the 35-year-old Parisian designer for their two latest properties—Habita Monterrey and Distrito Capital in Mexico City. His hallmark? Using dramatic strokes of black and white to shape spaces and give rhythm to the perception of the architecture. “The fact is I try to glorify everyday life moments; I focus in trying to dissolve domestic function into sculptural form,” says Dirand, whose portfolio until now was mainly residential and retail. “Hospitality is the perfect combination between a commercial project and a private project.” We think he may have found his calling. Growing up with a father who was a photographer specializing in interiors and architecture and a fashion designer mother, design is in Dirand’s DNA.
