Chances are you’ve been having a rocky winter, at least weather-wise. There’s been a lot of it this season, almost anywhere you may be in the continental U.S. or much of Europe. (To our friends on other continents or in select U.S. states, if you’ve been basking in sunshine since November, don’t tell me about it. But enjoy.) I love winter, but even dear friends can outstay their welcome. We hope this issue is something of a remedy for the arctic blues. We revisit luxury in a particularly striking way, featuring a number of projects that will both spark your creativity as designers or whet your appetites as potential guests. We’re particularly pleased to be among the first to show you Edition, the Oahu resort that’s the first of a new line that has brought together two heavyweight industry names—Marriott and Schrager. The two have gone to the top of the tree for Edition’s debut—George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg— and their design in all its glory can be found on page 94. You’ll also want to know about Chatwal, the first property in what promises to Photo by Oscar Einzig be an exciting new brand; the first is in Manhattan, designed by the great Thierry Despont. We’ve also gone to some interesting corners of the world to find luxury. Soho House adds another members-only club to its collection, this one in Miami and designed by Martin Brudnizki. On the tiny island of Anguilla, Ani Villas define the idea of intimate luxury. And as usual, restaurants are a part of the mix. Included in this issue are Singapore’s Waku Ghin, elegantly created by Joshua Zinder, and Lincoln, the newest and largest dining component of New York’s Lincoln Center, the latest creation of the innovative Diller Scofidio + Renfro. In a similar vein, Products features a plethora of luxury items that perfectly complement the feature projects; additionally, you’ll catch an early glimpse of some of the wares that top manufacturers will be debuting at HD Expo in May…where it will be warmer almost everywhere, especially in Las Vegas. Can’t wait. Enjoy the issue.
