perspectives sketchbook sofitel dubai > The latest project on the boards in the Dallas o ce of Wilson Associates is the So tel Dubai. This 350-room hotel is located in the city’s vibrant downtown neighborhood, which surrounds the world’s tallest tower, Burj Khalifa. The starting point for design inspiration came from an unlikely source—a painting that the client showed the design team. “Not only is French op-artist Victor Vasarely a brilliant colorist, but his use of the curve in creating amazing shapes and pa erns is unprecedented,” explains Wilson’s principal James Carry. Vasarely’s unique color pale es and creative use of mind-bending optical illusions inspired a design scheme where curvilinear forms and unexpected pops of color reign supreme. This can be seen everywhere in the hotel, from the steakhouse, which features shocking pink cowhide seats, to the meeting room, where a muted interior décor is punctuated by a wild orange geometric carpet.
