pinch food design
> From a state-of-the-art kitchen and workshop in New York’s west Chelsea neighborhood, TJ Girard and Bob Spiegel make “food furniture.” Instead of lining mini quiches onto cookie sheets, the catering duo suspend sauces from—and lank skewered bites with— their Frame Interaction, made from handpicked walnut planks and glossy black hardware accents. The Pinch Bowl, another of their creations, sit atop wine glasses and allow guests to gracefully manage holding a beverage and eating simultaneously. “Our concepts are defined by the collision of art and food,” says Spiegel, executive chef and co-founder. “We like to use high contrasts, such as glossy and matte materials and bitter and sweet lavors.” Spiegel’s partner, designer and co-founder Girard, says their playful furniture—from pretzels hooked on a “wire” that resemble laundry dangling on clotheslines, to beignets served on light fixtures—are all “a reaction to a stale industry. Pinch was conceived upon an idea to bring a more theatrical, experiential, and exciting approach to catering.”

technogym
> Technogym, the Italian producer of luxury fitness equipment, recently unveiled its new headquarters in the Cesena region. Fittingly, the village also doubles as the world’s first full- ledged wellness campus, complete with a state-of-the-art gym, library, and restaurant launting locally sourced ingredients from Romagna. Already it’s played host to Cesena’s 20th International Wellness Congress, attracting Bill Clinton as a keynote speaker. For the design of this impressive 20,000-square-foot space, Technogym turned to Milan-based Antonio Citterio, Patricia Viel and Partners, which wanted to avoid a look that was institutional. Says Citterio, “To stay in tune with the concept of wellness, the project is organized as a horizontal complex, extending into the landscape more like a college campus than a corporate facility. We have imagined a place where people might want to spend time even outside of work hours.” This means a gym “that is not just a showroom for machines, but a true fitness club”; offices facing the park; and use of natural materials such as lamellar wood.

> Delano is synonymous with South Beach, but soon the boutique brand will summon Morocco. Morgans Hotel Group has unveiled a 71room sibling to the Miami stalwart in Marrakech, in partnership with Moroccan entrepreneur Ahmed Bennani’s Hivernage Collection and Marbella Club Hotel Group. One of the highlights of the hotel, which Morgans collaborated on with French designer Jacques Garcia, is the 20,000-square-foot Pearl Spa, with a mosaic-tiled pool meant to resemble a grotto and authentic hammams with colored lighting. “The layout of the Pearl Spa is circular, playing off of the building’s core central rotunda reminiscent of a traditional riad. The corridor is shaped like a tunnel, which feels as if it is transporting guests into another world. As you walk through the various treatment and lounge areas and enter this ethereal space you get a sense of leaving everything behind you,” says Verena Haller, senior vice president of design for Morgans Hotel Group. Morocco’s presence was also felt in the materials: the nish used on the main spa wall is Tadelakt, a lime plaster indigenous to Marrakech. “The colors are kept dark to create a warm, sumptuous feeling, and the light is dimmed in all areas to evoke tranquility and stillness,” adds Haller.
