Screen Printing Technique
STEP 2. Starting with the standard base for water-based printing, I
will modify it so it can be used for shirt treatments such as dipping. Pour some of the base into an empty bucket and add Kosher salt to break down the base. Shake vigorously so the salt works its way through the base and add more water if it is a little thick. When doing this for production, it is important to use a scale and document everything so the process can be repeated.
STEP 3. Choose a pigment to add but do not make it too strong of a
color. I like using black, but any color can be used.
STEP 4. Stir the mixture with your (gloved) hand. When fully mixed, it is ready for dipping shirts. Next, pour
some of the mixture into a separate container and save the bulk of what you have mixed. In the smaller container, add additional pigment to make a stronger color. This can be used as a booster to enhance parts of the design.
