Findings by the Menlo Park, Calif.– based staffing services firm reveal that 35 percent of executive respondents cite unhappiness with management as the top reason for workers leaving their jobs. That number is up from 23 percent when a similar survey was conducted five years ago. “In tough economic times, people really look to their managers as a point of stability. They need strong managers to live up to high expectations,” says Josh Warborg, district president for the Pacific Northwest for Robert Half International. “In an economic downturn, employers should be cautious of losing good employees If good employees are not retained, when the economy springs back, employers won’t have the right branches or makeup of an organization to be able to bounce back from the economic distress,” he says. Other factors that are driving employees to seek greener pastures include limited opportunities for advancement (33 percent), lack of recognition (13 percent), inadequate salary and benefits (13 percents), other reasons (5 percent) and boredom (1 percent). According to the folks at Robert Half International, there are several signs that signal employees might be looking for a new job, including a noticeable change in attitude; longer lunch breaks and frequent absences; missed deadlines and increased errors; more professional attire and a drop in productivity. 14 | Incentive | February 2009 | incentivemag.com http://www.kohls.com/corpgiftcard http://www.kohls.com/corpgiftcard http://www.incentivemag.com
