KBB - September 2011 - (Page 13) Show Director’s Note Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) 2012 April 2012 McCormick Place, Chicago, IL www.kbis.com CONTACT US 1145 Sanctuary Parkway, Suite 355 Alpharetta, GA 30009 Ph: (770) 569-1540, (800) 241-9034 Fax: (770) 569-5105 Nielsen I Love to Ask Questions… I have to admit it’s a tough skill to learn. I once worked for a senior executive who asked a lot of questions anytime I wanted him to support an idea. He would continue to ask questions until I did not have an answer. At that point, I got booted from his office to think about the project a little more. What I learned was how to think about my proposal from his point of view to anticipate all the questions he might ask. In my first six weeks as managing director of KBIS, I have asked a lot of questions and done a lot of listening. I try to pose appreciative, open-ended questions. Tell me about your first experience with KBIS. What attracted you to the event? What did you value most about that experience? Through listening we gain insight. From insight comes new thinking. And from new thinking comes growth. As I play a new role in the kitchen and bath industry I’ve so enjoyed over the years, it is the conversation I seek. I am listening to your stories of innovation, growth and desire for future success. I have heard many talk about the heritage of greatness that is KBIS. I have heard stories about people, relationships, innovative products and designs. Stories about gaining an edge in a very challenging and very large kitchen and bath marketplace. Stories about opportunities around the world. The number of people who so strongly want KBIS to grow and prosper encourages me. My vision is simple. KBIS will help the entire industry grow. KBIS will represent the best thinking of the kitchen and bath industry in all the major product and design categories. KBIS will be memorable and emotional, and you will leave energized. KBIS will help you build lasting, valuable business and personal relationships. We understand that KBIS has to earn your commitment, time and energy. You will see noticeable differences at KBIS 2012 in Chicago leading to the 50th anniversary of the NKBA at KBIS 2013 in New Orleans. I’d love our readers to help see the future as well. Please send me your stories. I’m listening.
