Co-location Drives Added Value
Positive changes on the horizon for the K&B industry
Editor’s note: “Design and Construction Week” is the name of the new
umbrella event taking place February 2014. It was announced in January,
when an agreement to co-locate the International Builders’ Show (IBS)
and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas, was reached.
The slowdown in the economy over the last few years presented a
true test of the core business skills required to help maintain, and most
importantly, grow a business. Many companies and sectors of the industry
have had to make major structural and strategic changes to sustain
their growth and prepare for a brighter future. However, that is not merely
enough at a time where spending is limited and consumer confidence is
scarce. The companies that have focused on driving value are those that
are ultimately prepared to embrace an ever-growing and ever-changing
customer audience.
The U.S. tradeshow industry is one area that has been deeply affected
because of the lack of attendees and exhibitors, which was driven in part
by the uncertainty of the future, a cost-savings mentality and a decline
of perceived value. Aside from a core essential group of manufacturers
that continued to bring innovative products to the market, the need to
participate in tradeshows has been challenged by the ease to access
new products and the speed in which digital communication has
increased during the same time as the economic slowdown. For industry
tradeshows to once again become valuable, change needed to be
enacted.
The recent announcement of the KBIS and IBS co-location has created
a stream of positive energy around the building and design industry. It
is no surprise that both NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association)
and NAHB (National Association of Home Builders), along with the show
management teams, strategically made the decision to join forces
to create one of the largest U.S. industry shows under the umbrella of
“Design and Construction Week.”
From the perspective of a leading K&B manufacturer, there is
no doubt in anyone’s mind that the co-location of these shows has
positive advantages for both the associations and its members, general
attendance and the manufacturing world. From a macroeconomic
perspective, this mega-construction event, positions the U.S. kitchen and
bath and building construction industries as leading worldwide platforms
for designers, builders, architects and manufacturers to enhance their
