KBIS SPECIAL SECTION The KBIS Learning Program: What’s in it for You? At KBIS 2014, the NKBA University will be represented in three learning programs: Voices from the Industry sessions, 12 NKBA Courses and three Featured Speakers. These opportunities are all designed to foster professional development for the variety of KBIS attendees. So how does one go about deciding which parts of the learning program to attend at KBIS 2014? “The attendee should ask himself or herself: What goals do I want to achieve? How can I prepare myself to tackle new challenges?” said Nancy Barnes, NKBA director of learning. “By attending some KBIS 2014 learning courses or Voices from the Industry conference sessions, attendees have an opportunity to develop their knowledge in a number of different areas that are mapped out for them in tracks we call Learning Paths.” are part of 11 conference blocks over three days and offer attendees a chance to hear presentations from their industry peers on a variety of current topics and trends, which follow four of the NKBA’s Leaning Paths: Design & Inspiration, Focus on the Customer, Business Management and Sales & Marketing. 2 NKBA Courses. The 12 courses being offered just before and during KBIS also offer CEUs, as well as NKBA education hours, and are designed to further develop an industry professional’s career. The courses, which range from two to four hours, are taught by top educators and instructors and are a separate charge from the KBIS conference package. Six Learning Paths will be covered through these courses: Sales & Marketing, Design & Inspiration, Adapt & Innovate, Focus on the Customer, Talent Management and Communication. A highlight of the 12 NKBA Courses being offered as a part of KBIS is a Richardson Sales Training and Strategy Execution course being offered twice on Monday, Feb. 3, and twice on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The course, which is not readily available to this industry, is designed to improve performance and drive results by developing top-performing sales teams. Lynn Neillie will host “Improve Your Sales Performance with Consultative Selling,” which will offer four CEUs and NKBA education hours. 3 Featured Speakers. These keynote speakers – one for each day at KBIS – will focus on important business-related topics relevant to the industry. On Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 2 to 3 p.m., Michael Roberto, Trustee Professor of Management for Bryant University, will host “Making the Tough Call: Decisive Leadership,” a business management track offering one CEU. On Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Francisco “Paco” Martinez-Cosentino of the Cosentino Group will discuss the “State of the Industry: Emerging World Markets in the Kitchen & Bath Industry,” a business management track. The three learning programs available at KBIS 2014 include: 1 34 Voices from the Industry: For the first time at KBIS, 54 out of the 85 sessions – an increase from 60 in 2013 – will offer continuing education units (CEUs), which have usually only been obtained through NKBA courses. The hour-long informational sessions + K BB On Thursday, Feb. 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the 2014 30 Under 30 group will discuss Design & Inspiration and Business Management Learning Paths, and this session will offer one CEU. The group will be revealed in the weeks to come when the candidates are selected.
