And, when the Fontainebleau Miami Beach reopens after a $1 billion renovation and expansion this spring, numerous cabanas will be part of the centerpiece pool area. Unlike the cabanas of yore, when a couple of chairs and perhaps a small table were the extent of the offerings, today’s cabanas come with everything from a personal concierge to Internet service to ﬂatscreen televisions. Most, however, still don’t reach the level of those at The Breakers, in Palm Beach. Breakers’“bungalows” are just as suitable for a small VIP meeting or as an ofﬁce as they are for relaxing. At 300 sf, the bungalows by the relaxation pool or the active pool offer living-room-style furnishings of tables, chairs, and a daybed sofa, plus two chaise lounge chairs, along with a host of high-tech amenities like complimentary Internet access, a cordless phone, a 32-inch LCD television, and a DVD player. Also included are a wet bar and stocked refrigerator; a full bathroom with open-sky shower, toilet, sink, and changing area; and a host of essentials, such as newspapers and magazines, robes and sandals, and a beach concierge. The Breakers’ smaller beachside cabanas, at 150 sf, offer similar accoutrements. The Biltmore in Miami offers cabanas with similar amenities around the largest hotel swimming pool in the continental United States.
