Meeting News - February 11, 2008 - (Page 14) Hotels/Resorts continued from page 13 last month announced a new in-lobby dining concept that will accommodate various dining preferences. The eatery, Flying Spoons, will provide fresh yet convenient items, accommodating both diners needing to eat on the go and those seeking a leisurely experience. The restaurant will have a variety of seating, including high-top tables, traditional seating, and ottomans. Flying Spoons will feature light fare, such as soups, salads, and sandwiches. Dinner entrees will include salmon, scallops, and lobster enchiladas. It will debut later this year at the new 140-suite Embassy Suites Jackson-North Ridgeland. Embassy plans to open another 40 to 50 of the restaurants, mostly at new or reflagged properties. Big Expansion at Disneyland Anaheim—An expansion plan has been announced for Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Slated for completion in late 2009, the 2.5-acre extension will add more than 200 new hotel rooms and 50 two-bedroom villas. The additions will create new options for group customers, said Robert Donahue, director of resort sales and services, Disneyland Resort. “The expansion allows us to host larger conventions, meetings, and incentive programs by creating more rooming options for groups,” he said. “It also increases overflow options for groups at our other on-site convention properties, the Disneyland Hotel, and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel.” Other elements planned for the Grand Californian expansion include a rooftop deck for viewing fireworks and a new swimming pool. Today, Disney’s Grand Californian features 745 guest rooms, including 44 suites. Crowne Plaza Takes Off At Cleveland Hopkins Airport Atlanta—A second Crowne Plaza has opened in Cleveland. Launched last month, the 238-room Crowne Plaza Cleveland Airport provides an option for groups not looking to go far from the terminal; its meeting space spans 16,000 sf. The hotel offers an indoor pool and a steakhouse with an Italian influence. Complimentary wireless and wired Internet access is available throughout the hotel. Starwood Debuts a Westin In Virginia Beach Town Center Virginia Beach, VA—There’s a new Westin in town. Opened late last year, the 236room Westin Virginia Beach Town Center is part of a larger mixed-use development in the town’s central business district, offering restaurants and high-end retail spots. Night owls will enjoy the hotel’s lobby, which every night becomes “Unwind,” a club-like atmosphere with activities ranging from wine tastings to massage clinics. The hotel offers 10,000 sf of meeting space. r 14 MeetingNews February 11, 2008 www.meetingnews.com http://www.hiltonsandestinbeach.com http://www.hiltonsandestinbeach.com http://www.meetingnews.com
