Philly Do Good New ‘voluntourism’ initiative lets groups give back to Philadelphia charities T he Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau is offering a way for groups to give back to the City of Brotherly Love: by volunteering to help a local cause. Through this “voluntourism” initiative, meeting attendees can take part in such activities as building a home with Habitat for Humanity, working with Philadelphia youth as part of the Mural Arts Program, or helping out at the popular Philadelphia Zoo. The initiative came about after several groups in Philadelphia, including the National Council of La Raza and Ace Hardware, expressed a desire to volunteer, said a CVB spokesperson. The bureau is currently producing a list of the voluntourism activities for groups and will launch the project in late spring.
