Meeting News - March 24, 2008 - (Page 38) Destination Insider: Las Vegas Edited by MeetingNews staff It’s Trump in Spades on the Las Vegas Strip The Donald debuts new luxury property that goes head-to-head with Wynn Just as Steve Wynn puts the final touches on his Encore property, scheduled to debut later this year, Donald Trump is opening some new doors of his own—right across Las Vegas Boulevard. The Trump International Hotel & Tower is set to open on March 31 adjacent to the Fashion Show Mall. The 64story building, wrapped in gold glass, has 1,282 nonsmoking suites ranging from 515 to 3,500 sf. The studio to three-bedroom condo-style accommodations are furnished in a classic contemporary style and feature panoramic views of the city through floor-toceiling windows. They contain the latest business and entertainment technology, European-style kitchens, and the Trump Hotel Collection’s Trump by Stearns & Foster Plush Pillowtop. Taking a boutique-style hotel approach, the property has no casino and touts its personalized service. Signature touches include white-gloved doormen and the 24-hour services of a Trump Attache who will arrange anything from dry cleaning to preparation of business cards and stationery for guests. Amenities include the Spa at Trump, a 10,000-sf setting that will feature a Spa Attache who guides the guest through every step of the experience, from preparing and presenting infused elixir tonics to customizing iPod music selections. The property also includes a 1,500-sf fitness center, an open-air heated pool, and a sundeck. There’s also a signature restaurant, lobby bar, and poolside dining spot. The hotel’s 2,400 sf of indoor meeting space includes two meeting rooms, at 800 and 1,000 sf, along with the 600-sf Trump Board Room. The Penthouse Suite is able to host a DJT-catered private dinner for up to 30 guests with a view of the city. —Heidi Waldrop Bay Meetings Magnate MGM Grand Expands Offerings with Ballroom The MGM Grand’s new Marquee Ballroom further expands the variety of meeting and convention space at the megaresort, which now totals 602,000 sf. The 92,000-sf pillarless structure opened in January next to the MGM Grand Conference Center. Fully carpeted, the ballroom features wireless Internet access, in-floor power, and convenient rigging points throughout. The multi-purpose building can be used for general sessions, trade shows, and catered functions of up to 6,000 people. Smaller groups can use the standalone facility for all their meeting and meal functions over the course of a day. —HWB Trump makes move for luxury groups in Vegas. Meet Las Vegas: New Venue Pushes Back Its Debut Date Downtown’s newest event space, Meet Las Vegas, has pushed back its debut to next August. More than $7 million is being spent to restructure an existing building in a revitalized area near Fremont Street. The three-story venue provides 30,000 sf of flexible space. The White House multimedia center, dedicated to trainings and seminars, has moved from another part of the city to the top floor of Meet. The bottom floors can be configured in a number of ways to host up to 1,500 people, with open space with an extensive rigging and technology infrastructure. Corporate branding is possible, including using a Color Kinetics system that changes the actual color of the building’s exterior. —HWB The Palms Opens Its Condominium Hotel Tower The 47-story, 599-unit Palms Place opened on March 1. The luxury hotel, condo, and spa tower features amenities intended to complement the 703-room Palms Casino Resort, which is connected to Palms Place by an elevated, enclosed moving walkway called the SkyTube. Drift Spa, a two-story, 50,000-sf spa and pool complex, includes the city’s first ever hammam, a Turkish bath-style coed area. Later this spring, celebrity chef Kerry Simon will introduce Simon at Palms Place restaurant and lounge. Other Palms Place amenities include a 38 MeetingNews March 24, 2008 lobby bar, boutiques, 24-hour room service with a menu developed by Simon, resort concierge service, and a business center. There is no meeting space at Palms Place, but groups will have access to 60,000 sf of function space at Palms Casino Resort.
