Meeting News - March 24, 2008 - (Page 44) Destination Insider: Las Vegas The Fine Art of Events Venues That Bowl Them Over Bowling is anything but boring or blue collar in Las Vegas, and three recently opened venues inject a luxurious twist to the experience. Red Rock Lanes at the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa has 72 lanes, VIP lanes, and a lounge with bottle service. With full buyouts, groups can be treated to full catering and decorations, private function rooms, and games like shuffle board, darts, and pool. Galleries, Museums, and Performance Halls Are Smart Choices Among the Glitz and Glam Is that a museum across from the pool? If you’re at the Bellagio resort, it is. The Bellagio’s Gallery of Fine Art is located directly across from the pool promenade, and for groups interested in incorporating a bit of culture amid the fun of Las Vegas, private tours can be arranged, and the venue can host an intimate gala. “For the VIP grand opening reception for [the recent exhibition] ‘American Modernism,’ we entertained about 150 guests and were able to serve drinks and food in the ticket area,” said Tarissa Tiberti, the gallery’s manager. Guests were able to leave their glasses outside and enjoy the showcase of masterworks by Georgia O’Keefe and others, with full audio tours, and then retire to the museum shop for additional food and beverages. “We received a great response,” said Tiberti, of the event. Modern art lovers will gravitate to the Las Vegas Art Museum, dedicated to emerging and internationally recognized artists and the first fine-art museum in Nevada. In 2009, the museum will relocate to a larger facility one block east of the Strip. The new facility promises meeting spaces in the forms of a large lobby, a flexible lecture hall/event center, a library, and an on-site restaurant. There will be private tours of the 30,000-sf gallery and exhibition area.“There is a renewed interest in contemporary art and design, and we are seeing increased interest by visitors,” said museum spokesperson Alex Codlin. In 2011, the Smith Center for the Performing Arts will unleash its new center in downtown, described as a venue that will “educate, entertain, and excite.” The center will have a 2,000-seat main hall, as well as a 600-seat theater and a 300-seat studio theater. In addition to those performance spaces, there will be areas that will accommodate large groups for conferences and meetings, dinners, and events. —Dana Young Feel Lucky? Lucky Strike Lanes caters events. Meeting-Goers Can Get on the Fast Track with Kart Racing Racing into the adrenaline-packed world of Las Vegas last November, Pole Position Raceway is a 60,000-sf indoor motor-sports entertainment facility built with groups in mind. A large private group can choose to take over the entire facility, while smaller groups can use several non-private areas and four private event rooms. The largest of the rooms, which overlooks the track, can accommodate a reception of up to 200 people. On-site catering is available, as are flat-screen monitors and audiovisual technology for presentations. Whatever the size of the group, customized races can be arranged using what the venue claims are the fastest indoor karts in the country (capable of speeds up to 45 mph) on a quarter-milelong track. NASCAR champion Kurt Busch helped design the track so that it is challenging for both experienced racers and novices. Along with the racing action, the venue features arcade games and billiard tables. Facility buyouts include customized, teambuilding-centric racetrack events and unlimited use of all of Pole Position’s amenities. An additional option is custom-engraved trophies and plaques. —WN Lucky Strike Lanes, which opened at Rio AllSuite Hotel & Casino last March, has 10 lanes and a 160-seat restaurant and can be bought out for private events of up to 250 attendees. The venue has five projection screens, a digital jukebox, and a 25-seat bar. And, for small groups, the Palms Casino Resort has the retro-styled Kingpin Suite, which has two bowling lanes. The 5,000-sf suite has a full bar and can accommodate up to 100 players. —HWB Indoor kart racing venue can turbocharge meetings and teambuilding. Bellagio Takes Groups to the Bank The Bank, which opened last December at the Bellagio, aims to raise the bar on sophistication and luxury in already glitzy Las Vegas. To that end, the grand entrance of the new club is flanked by walls where bottles of Cristal champagne are stacked floor to ceiling and a champagne-glass ceiling fixture reflects a kaleidoscope of light and colors. Groups can take advantage of a series of tiered VIP booths. Each table receives a personal service team, led by a cocktail and bottle service specialist. A separate semi-private room can accommodate up to 75 attendees, and the club is available for private events seven nights a week, for groups from 200 to 1,000 meeting-goers. The Bank has fully customizable video, sound, and light capabilities, as part of its ability to do custom events. The club can also provide transportation, tailored F&B, and customized gifts. —HWB www.meetingnews.com 44 MeetingNews March 24, 2008 http://www.meetingnews.com
