Destination Insider: Caribbean Doors Opening Up in Dominican Republic A ﬂurry of development activity is taking over the Dominican Republic. New high-end hotel projects throughout the island are proving to be a boon for meeting planners as they now have more possibilities to stage their group gatherings. In Cofresi Beach, the new ﬁve-star Maxim Bungalows opened in March and features 108 ﬁve-star units, a 17,000-sf spa, private pools, state-of-the-art ﬁtness facilities, and dedicated meeting space. Scheduled to open in September, the Westin Roco Ki Beach and Golf Resort in Punta Cana will provide 337 guest rooms, including 20 luxury jungle bungalows; 20,000 sf of versatile, state-of-theart meeting and conference space; special outdoor venues for functions; and several restaurants. Guests will also enjoy the 18-hole championship Nick Faldo signature golf course, the Spa at Westin Roco Ki, a marina, and more. As for future projects in the Dominican Republic, the Four Seasons Casa de Campo, opening in La Romana in late 2009, will feature a convention area, and a new Ritz-Carlton in Cap Cana, opening in 2010, will also have dedicated space for meetings.
