Its 278,000 square feet of exhibition space can easily accommodate 1,500 individual exhibits, each with its own telephone line. Loading docks can accommodate even the largest exhibits with direct exhibit floor access for trucks and trailer rigs. A centrally located 21,780-square-foot registration lobby is the setting for reception and registration activities. There is lighting capability for television or cable transmission, and outlets for broadcast, wire service, teleconferencing, and teletype transmissions. And, from banquet to buffet, full-service catering is available. ACCOMMODATIONS The Cleveland Convention Center is located near eight downtown hotels, including Crowne Plaza Cleveland City Centre, Cleveland Marriott Downtown at Key Center, Renaissance Cleveland Hotel, The Ritz-Carlton-Cleveland, and Hyatt Regency at The Arcade. DINING In the East Fourth Street Entertainment District, attendees can dine at Lola, the newest Iron Chef America’s restaurant; enjoy martinis and bowling at the upscale Corner Alley; see live music at the House of Blues; or check out Pickwick and Frolic, a champagne bar/restaurant/Hilarities comedy club. The Warehouse District offers late-night salsa dancing at Sunset Lounge, Brazilian cuisine at Brasa Grill, steak at Blue Point Grille, and tapas and vino at D’vine Wine. A visit to the West Side Market will reveal hundreds of vendors and some nearby ethnic eateries. The neighborhoods of Tremont, Coventry, AsiaTown, and Little Italy also offer tempting fare. RECREATION Dinner and dancing cruises around Lake Erie aboard the Nautica Queen and Goodtime III are popular with conventiongoers, as are kayaking, charter fishing, and other lake activities. Many also choose to hit the links, as there are more than 150 public golf courses in the Cleveland Plus region. Downtown, attendees can explore Northcoast Harbor, home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the Great Lakes Science Center and its Omnimax Theater. There’s also Browns Stadium, home of the NFL franchise. Other downtown sports options include the NBA’s Cavaliers (featuring superstar Lebron James) and MLB’s Indians. Just east of downtown is University Circle, the nation’s most concentrated square mile of arts and culture including the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cleveland Botanical Garden, Western Reserve Historical Society, Cleveland Institute of Art, and Severance Hall (winter home of the Cleveland Orchestra). Nearby Playhouse Square is the second largest performing arts center- in the U.S. The theater district features Broadway plays, comedians, national musical acts, opera, ballet, and more. ACCESS Cleveland is within 500 miles of 43 percent of the U.S. population, making it one of the nation’s most conveniently located cities. The Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is just a few miles from downtown, and there is another smaller airport about an hour south of Cleveland, the Akron-Canton Airport. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority features bus and rapid rail lines that cover more than 450 square miles and offer service from the airport to downtown. Amtrak’s rail passenger service links Cleveland to the rest of the country with daily service on the Lakeshore Limited and the Capitol Limited. An existing alternative venue is the International Exposition Center, with more than 1 million square feet of space, including an 800,000 square-foot main exhibit hall. The IX Center, which is currently being expanded and renovated, has 26 meeting rooms, a 16,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, 10,000 secured parking spaces, and more than 30 dock doors.
