Meeting News - December 17, 2007 - (Page 16) Hotels/Resorts continued from page 14 Meeting & Eating in the Keys Key West, FL—Meeting attendees can now enjoy dishes by a celebrity chef while still at a meeting hotel, and without a hefty dinner tab. Food and beverage operations at the new Beachside Resort & Conference Center here are being overseen by Norman Van Aken, the founder of “New World Cuisine,” which describes much of Florida’s fine food offerings. Rock Gently Into the Night W hat will they think of next? The Fairmont Washington, DC has put in place a Sleep Concierge, charged with helping guests to get in some zzz’s. Upon check-in for Fairmont Gold rooms, which are considered a hotel within the hotel, guests will receive a “sleep menu” with a choice of “melting,” “soaking,” or “dreaming” items. Melting includes an in-room, 15-minute neck massage, and a 30minute yoga class. Soaking? Rose petals, a lavender-scented candle, a scented bath soak, a nightcap, or sleep-inducing tea with a lavender cookie. Dreaming? A sleep smoothie with lavender cookies, a music CD, an eye pillow, or, for the young at heart, a teddy bear. All items cost $8 to $30 and are delivered by the Sleep Concierge. So rest easy. The property, which features 222 rooms and suites and 6,000 sf of meeting space, has two restaurants as well as a poolside bar and grill where guests can partake of Van Aken’s food. His victuals will also be served during events and, for attendees who must keep close tabs on the office while away, the business center has its own kitchen where Van Aken food service presides. Included in the hotel’s guest room count are 129 suites and the meeting space offers a ballroom that can accommodate up to 400 guests. One of the hotel’s eateries has a private dining area for up to 25 for wine and chef’s tastings or other events. brand.
