The site is the next evolution of that step, said a spokeswoman. “We are able to keep track of commissions better now that they’re centralized; before, salespeople had their own databases, as did customers,” she said. “Because of this, we now have the support systems we need for tools such as this website.” The site also will include news about hotel openings, renovations, offers for groups, and Marriott or industry-related news. Early next year, Marriott will introduce Meetings Excellence, a self-paced, online training course for meetings professionals. Spread over three modules, each approximately 30 to 45 minutes long, Meetings Excellence will include tutorials on pre-meeting planning, budgeting, site selection, negotiation, on-site coordination, and post-meeting followup. The program also will showcase all of Marriott’s online tools for planners, such as pre-arrival e-mail, custom web pages, online menus, electronic room and group lists, and printable checklists. Meetings Excellence will be translated into nine languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, and Turkish. Graduates of the program will be eligible exclusively for discounted Plan-Tastic rates at over 2,000 Marriott properties around the world.
