Las Vegas Newcomers Join Celebrity Chefs The Aria Resort & Casino at the core of the CityCenter development has announced its collection of restaurants that will open late next year. The new casino resort is to feature celebrity chef/restaurateurs Sirio Maccioni, Michael Mina, Julian Serrano, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Jean-Philippe Maury, and the Light Group. All of them run restaurants at other MGM Mirage properties, but there will be two newcomers. Masayoshi Takayama, chef of Masa in New York City, will open Bar Masa, a restaurant divided into two spaces that will offer different styles of service and cuisine. The first, more casual space will feature an a la carte menu of Masa’s style of modern Japanese cuisine. The second space, Shaboo, will be a room within Bar Masa with an exclusive dining experience, where each table will be equipped with its own induction cooking element and special serving vessels from the restaurant’s private vault. Shawn McClain, executive chef and partner at three top Chicago restaurants, will open his first restaurant outside the Windy City. The eatery, Sage, will spotlight farm-to-table produce, artisan meats, and sustainable seafood in an informal yet sophisticated room designed by Jacques Garcia Decoration. —Las Vegas section written by Heidi Waldrop Bay Hard Rock’s $750 Million Overhaul Is On Track The $750 million renovation and expansion under way at Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is still on track to be completed next year. The project will add 950 guest rooms—including a 15story, 400-suite VIP tower—that will raise the room count to 1,500. Approximately 60,000 sf of meeting space and 35,000 sf of casino space will be added, along with about 30,000 sf of retail and F&B space. There will be a new spa and health club, as well. By the end of next year, the Hard Rock’s pool will be expanded, and a new, larger “Joint” live venue will be built.
