Mexico & Latin America Singapore Current ACTE president Crum (left) and president-to-be Crowley The Association of Corporate Travel Executives last month said BCD Travel senior vice president of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Asia/Pacific Chris Crowley will become the association’s president-elect on Jan. 1 and assume the presidency at its next global conference in May 2010, succeeding AirPlus International president Richard Crum. Crowley, based in London, will become ACTE’s first European president. He has worked in the travel industry for 18 years and with BCD since 2005, and previously worked for Accor and other hotel companies. The announcement came at ACTE’s global conference in Prague, where executive director Susan Gurley announced her resignation. Deputy executive director Megan Costello will take over Gurley’s role on an interim basis on Dec. 1, while Gurley will stay with the association through the transition before departing on Dec. 31 to pursue an opportunity with the federal government. ACTE has formed a replacement search committee, and the hiring process will be conducted with its board of directors. The committee will begin interviewing candidates after the holiday season. ACTE plans to announce Gurley’s successor by the end of the first quarter of 2010, according to Crum. The senior leadership changes come after the failed merger efforts between several ACTE board members and the National Business Travel Association, which came to a head this summer. Under the terms of the proposal ACTE and NBTA leaders considered, Gurley would have been required to vacate her position.
